Pardew keen to recruit Aug 29 2011 Newcastle boss Alan Pardew is desperate to add to his squad despite seeing his side drag themselves into the Barclays Premier League's top six with a 2-1 win over Fulham. Leon Best served a reminder of his determination to win a regular starting place with a decisive double, while Ryan Taylor once again deputised as left-back with owner Mike Ashley, managing director Derek Llambias and club secretary Lee Charnley still trying to plug the gaps into which they slotted ahead of Wednesday night's transfer deadline. However, Pardew is not concerned that a four-game unbeaten start to the new campaign will persuade the trio that there is no need to buy. He said: "It never worries me about winning games, I never really worry about that." Pardew added: "But I am frustrated that we haven't got a couple of bodies in yet, and I think Derek and Lee and Mike are frustrated as well. "Hopefully, we will get it over the line this week." Asked how important it was to win in the wake of Joey Barton's departure to QPR last week, Pardew said: "It is significant because he is obviously a large personality, but the club is always bigger than the individual, always, and it's now about other players making their reputation here. "Joey was great in his time here, especially under me. I enjoyed working with him, contrary to some things you hear - and this and that. "We had a great relationship and I wish him well. For us, though, we move on and that's how football is. It moves very, very quickly. "We have got seven points out of a really tough programme and we are pleased with that." S.S.R.
Who's Lee? Secretary. He's the one who feeds the paper into the fax machine. Vital cog in the wheel. Also makes Del's coffee. Everything could hinge on him.

sugoinufc
Krul ? (santon) S. Taylor Colo ?(santon) tiote cabaye ? Ben Arfa jonas ? its starting to look pretty damn good. A couple of signings more this and the next window. only 4 positions where i think we need/could/should invest. and then there still is good players like obertan, marveaux, little Ameobi, vuckic, willo etc.. could be good years in the making....even with Ashley still here. If there is something i hope for ashley to bring to the club it is stability and good economy for the future.
Lush Vlad
I get the impression he's deliberately setting us up to start games slowly, keep things tight and compact while we figure out the opposition then tweaking things to get gradually more aggressive - has happened in all 4 games so far, we've conceded lots of possession early doors but seen very few chances created against us. Spot on. Sure I read this somewhere before as well, not sure if it was in the paper or somebody else on this forum mentioning it.

He certainly sets his teams out very well and has achieved results when up against it due to players being out. Plenty has been said on here about him but fact is that Pardew has a very good reputation within the professional game and maybe we are starting to see why that is. dinotheprehistoricgeordie
Think he's done well so far. The start of the season was always going to be hard on us with the number of changes we've made in the transfer window. After our new comers have settled in properly, and got used to playing with each other in a new league (for most of them) I think we'll have a really tidy squad, injuries permitting of course. Guest TheSummerOf69
“Andy Carroll’s future... 100% he is staying here.... I guarantee while I am here he will be here.” “I have said all along that Andy Carroll will not be leaving this football club, 100%.” “Mike Ashley has made that commitment that the money will go back into the club. I’m sure 100% that he will and it’s my challenge to spend the money wisely.” “I think he’ll [barton] be here after the transfer window. You can never say 100 per cent in football but I think so.” "We will get a striker and left-back over the line, 100%." (The Barton one was obviously too much to swallow, even for him). ExiledGeordie
He needs to learn to stop making promises but he's been completely hung out to dry by Ashley/Llambias. He's the one who has to face the questions from fans/pundits/journos and he's the one who is going to face the heat if it goes tits up. Do you think Llambias will be there to support him? lol Llambias hasn't got the bollocks to answer questions, look at Pardew's first press conference which was probably one of the most challenging situations anyone could face in that climate. I'm sick to death of Pardew's aimless quotes coming back to haunt him but my anger is directed squarely at Ashley/Llambias and Llambias in particular. Under the current circumstances Pardew is the best we'll get because quite frankly who else would work under these conditions? Many others like Keegan would simply walk away. TRon
I think he just needs to shut up and get on with picking his Sholas and Lovenkrands. He can say what he wants but the bottom line is we know we were strung along and his job is to dress mutton up like lamb. By all means do that but please shut the fuck up. ExiledGeordie
He doesn't do himself any favours at all I agree and most of the stuff he comes out with currently is akin to "Comical Ali" lol
Guest sicko2ndbest
I know he's not the one who should be answering questions but here goes 'we tried up to the very end to bring a striker in. We weren't prepared to go outside of our budget' 'we have a great knowledge now of the Market and have a much better chance of getting our number 1 striker in january' 'Mike and Derek are just as disappointed as the supporters' 'we have Ben Arfa back spins who can affect that area of the pitch' 'money has been spent, we havnt madexa profit this window. Deals like Sylvain and Demba are not free' 'I put a list of names to the board and they worked tirelessly through them. We were close on some but never managed to break that wall down' 'we weren't prepared to go for just any striker, we will regroup and assess our options' 'I think we are at about the same stregnth as last year with potential to develop in January' 'we are already set up for the January window, ready to move quickly if the right player comes along'
ToonTastic
If I was Pardew being questioned about transfers I wouldn't simply answer with ask the board cause least he won't look as much likes a knob as he did after the last window.
TherealnorthernTOON
I'm totally gutted we didn't get a high class striker as we were promised. But I think most of the squad has been assessed. My hopes are still there that some of your youths will take a massive step up this season and even close one of the gaps in our squad. We got plenty of young promising players wich are worth looking at. Like Vuckic, Abeid, Ferguson, Tavernier etc. But I do believe they tried with the strikers they have been telling us they went for. And seemingly they have went through a long list aswell. Price haven't allways been the issue, as Gervinho chose Arsenal, Gameiro chose PSG, Erdinc chose to fight for his place at PSG, Maiga wasn't allowed to leave by Sochoux. I do believe they tried and had some nippy strikers with good finishing ability to get the goals we needed. And no I don't want the management to go for just any kind of striker. I wouldn't want another Viduka, or Martins or Owen at the club at this point.

I was going to right pretty much the same thing ,if Pardew had any balls he would walk away imho but we dont know what sort of hold they have over him (casino debts) or he might not give a shit and take one for the boys .His press conference will be very interesting and hopefully the red tops will give him the right questions and make him squirm and rightly so.
