Alan Pardew

He's getting things wrong at the moment on the pitch, but i'm still gonna reserve any judgement of him until we've actually spent some money. We've done well at times this season, but the luck has run out with regards to the whole square-peg-round-holes business. Plus, the team is blemished by poor players like Simpson and Raylor at the moment, as well as the injury to Saylor. Hopefully we have some money to spend in January and address the gaping holes in the line-up.

Granted, the persistence with Obertan and this recent favouring of the long-ball are worthy of concern, but on the whole i've still got faith in Pardew.

Poor choices and tactics today and as well as he has done (in general) he has to take the criticism when it rightly comes for what has been a poor run of form. He's having to continue showing faith in players who are not doing it, because there is no other option. The squad needs some significant strengthening but we all know it's not going to happen. A mid-table finish is the maxium that we can hope for under this regime and that's where we will end up if we do not invest.

Will be very interesting to see what he does in January like, Ba and Tiote are massive players to replace, big test for him.

What's Guthrie's prognosis? Can we expect him to be back before Cheick goes away? Not that you're his doctor - it's an open question.

What he will do in January is use Tiote and Ba as an excuse for not winning games.

Also - Man United (despite their injuries) will destroy us next Wednesday night if he repeats tonight's formula again. The fact we are at home may mean that he has to be braver. We have little to lose in actually having a go and trying to play some football.

Haven't got a clue but hopefully because he stepped up well last time.  Up front is going to be more of a mystery.

Needs to grow some balls and fuck-off this ultra-cautious approach that we've been taking against top-half teams. We were embarassingly scared of a mediocre Liverpool team tonight and took no risks whatsoever when the game was there for the taking. We have players in midfield and especially attack (if he chooses to pick them) who are capable of controlling games and causing damage, and have at times shown that this season, but instead we play with our backs to the wall and continuously look for an out-ball to a lone striker who is surrounded by opponents with none of our fuckers anywhere near him. Look at Bellamy's goal, man, half of our fucking team were virtually on the goal line - if we clear the ball there it's coming straight back at us anyway.

Sky's coverage was shit tonight but Alan Smith was bang on when he said the ball was like a hot-potato when we had it. Kick and rush for about 80 minutes of the match. Really fucking poor stuff and there's no need for it when we have players who are capable of keeping a hold of it.

Course he deserves some criticism, but the majority is pathetic tbh. He wasn't Mourinho when we went close to 20 games unbeaten from our last trip to Anfield, same way he's hardly Souness now.

We were doing okish defensively till their 2nd. But theyve just drawn their last two against Blackburn and Wigan man. We werent playing Man United, they were there to be tested and Pards just gave it up before even starting.

Exactly. We seem to have a fear of top teams before a ball is kicked. Chelsea and liverpool have both been struggling to get wins against any team that basically doesn't roll over and die, yet we've given both comfortable wins....today against a palpably weakened and crap Liverpool. Fucking hell, if we didn't hand them the goals they wouldn't have scored in a month of Sundays.

Questions have to be asked though surely? Our good start to the season could be in real danger of being pissed away.

People were bringing up observations and criticisms some time ago, and were told it wasn't fair because we were doing well. Now we're not doing well, and it's still not fair. When will it be?

When we've slipped out of contention for 7th is a fair shout given that most of the people having a go now didn't give us a cat in hell's chance of finishing top 10 back in August.

Good post Andy. He's been undoing his good work at the start of the season (and indeed last season too) for a while now, but the past few games have been a real piss take.

The fact he's already seemed to evolve as a manager once with us gives me hope however that he'll atleast attempt to sort his shit out.

Did anyone else notice the amount of times one of our players received it in space and didn't turn? I lost count of the amount of times I was yelling turn at the tv. He's stood on the side line yelling at them to hit Ba when we've got comfortable possession ffs. The players know it's going back to the back four and all the way forwards from there so they're not even trying to get turned and run at teams. Vuckic passed it back to the defence from the edge of Liverpool's box ffs.

We won't finish top 10 if this slide isn't arrested though! Fair enough, we've played some 'big sides' but that's no excuse for poor tactics and choices. He has to take some of the blame, as he took some of the credit when we had our good run.

You really are a Pardew fan - the school of thought which dictates "Wait until it is visibly broken" (cf. not phasing Raylor out for Santon much, much earlier in the season)   5 points from 24 now, with Man Utd next.

And opinions/expectations shouldnt be altered from performances we've put in up till now ?

Based on that many should be happy aslong as we dont get relegated.

We never built on our good start by changing the team when the going was good and incorporating our better players.

Blind loyalty to the shit players and has no idea how to get our better players into the team and playing a better style of football. Also people like Jonas look completely burned out and the injuries are stacking up.

I've got certain sympathy because the lack funds means we have far too many limited footballers in the squad and as such he only has so much to work with. However it's inexcusable that he can't get more out of what we do have.

As I've said, criticism, fair play. But the reactions of some is ridiculous. We've been poor, he's been poor. I'll worry if we're not top 8 end of February, not now when we're still 5 points clear of Stoke, etc.

Were people really expecting higher than 6th even when we were bang in form? I still think we can challenge it tbh. 7th was the goal (which a lot laughed at in the summer) and 7th should still be the aim.
