Is Mike Ashley the worst person ever to have been associated with NUFC?

Carl Cort by all acounts was a sound bloke and a good player who was hideously unlucky with injuries. Even Sir Bobby said so.

His missus was a nutter.

Aye didnt his wife cause a fight at tesco when she tried to jump the queue?

Apparently he was granted a restraining order against her!

Yes though, she kicked off in Kingston Park Tescos when she was made to wait in the line for the checkouts. She used the always twatful "Don't you know who I am!?" and I think the police ended up calming the situation down.

I mean how do you answer that question from Mrs Cort- "Yes you're the relatively unfamous wife of a Newcastle striker who's been a bit shit since he signed. You're hardly Victoria Beckham, now shut up and wait to pay for your cornflakes."

I was wondering whether because of the timing of the Carroll sale and the new financial rules whether we are actually allowed to spend the money?

Bloody hell

The rules are that you can only spend what you earn if you want to play in Europe.

The first season that they will start monitoring clubs is 2013/14, but every time they assess clubs it will be on a 3 year period, so the first assessment will take into account losses made from now over the next three years 2011-14

(Wether that includes the current close-season I'm not sure - either way it doesn't include the 30m Carrol money we got up front last season).

Owners will initially be allowed to absorb “acceptable deviations” (aggregate 3 year losses) by making equity contributions to cover losses up to:

2011-14:  c £ 39 million

2012-15:  c £ 39 million

2013-16:  c £ 26 million

2014-17:  c £ 26 million

2015-18:  c £ 26 million

2018 on: an unspecified lesser amount

("circa" - because Uefa puts the amounts in Euros, so the exchange to Pounds I've used may fluctuate in value a little).

The cost of each player is counted by "amortisation": that year's share of their transfer fee (eg Andy Carroll for 35m on a 5 year contract costs 7m each year) plus their yearly wage and bonuses.

Market rates will be expected on everything else, so the owner can't buy say a shirt for £100 million.

The only sanction is not playing in Europe though, so it's only going to affect clubs at (or apiring to) that level.

EXCLUSIVE: Westwood to scoop incredible £2m bonus if he breaks major duck

By Charles Sale

Lee Westwood, one of the strong favourites for The Open, will receive £2million from Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley if he clinches his first major.

The terms of the Dunlop clothing sponsorship deal between Westwood and retail magnate Ashley's Sports Direct business are on a no-win, no-pay basis, with all the incentive geared around success in golf's big four competitions.

And a long overdue victory in a major for the world No 2 at Sandwich will trigger a bonus of more than twice the £900,000 winner's cheque he would also collect.

The agreement was struck six years ago between International Sports Management boss Chubby Chandler, who represents Westwood, and Ashley - both of whom are renowned for liking a big-money punt.

Ashley pledged to pay Westwood and his ISM stable colleagues Darren Clarke and David Howell £2m in any year they win a major.

The contract, which has four years to run, also stipulates that the golfers don't have to be paid - or do any extra promotional work - for wearing the Ashley-owned Dunlop brand unless they bring home one of the big four titles.

Ashley, who would have insured against the loss, has been fortunate not to have already given Westwood a seven-figure bonus, with the consistent 38-year-old finishing in the top three in five of the last seven majors.

However, it's an equally safe bet that neither Clarke nor Howell, who failed to qualify, will be enjoying Ashley's millions.

Newcastle fans have long had concerns about their club's owner delivering on his financial promises. They are still waiting for well over half the £35m from Andy Carroll's transfer to Liverpool to be spent on the team, as Ashley insisted it would. But Chandler says Ashley will pay up immediately if Westwood is drinking from the Claret Jug on Sunday night.

The tycoon, who has an estimated net worth of £700m, thought nothing of losing £970,000 in just two hours during a night out at Aspers Casino in Newcastle last January with his football team manager Alan Pardew.

Chandler is another highly enthusiastic punter, although not quite on Ashley's extravagant level.

Coincidentally, the amount of money sloshing around at the elite level of golf is such that HSBC's wealth management team are only prepared to represent golfers who have £2million or more to invest.

Nice.

my bad, i thought there was an underlying point of "he's frivously throwing money away when he should be spending it where i think he should be"

Dave does that a lot these days. He will throw a statement in which for all intent and purposes insinuate something negative, then when challenged, he will just say "oh I wasn't making any point" which begs the question why post something in the first place. He's just  :fishing: man

Well I found it interesting.

We live with the effects of Ashley's careless gambling. On the other hand, I hope that the performance incentive side is also the norm now at the Toon though - no more mercenaries happy to collect bumper paydays for f a.

Mackems working in Sports Direct must be laughing their tits off. Acne infested fuck wits most of his shop floor staff are yet they can quite legitimately wave 30k and 2 fingers up at us and comment on what MA must think of his Nufc paying customers.

Good luck to his staff; but he can fuck right off.

The staff at the bottom of the pile will be lucky to get a £10 bonus.
