Off the Beaten Track Players

Redondo deserves a mention. A rare breed of DM who would dominate midfield and also break forward and skin players. Very quick feet, Ferguson once asked if he had a magnet in his boots after he backheeled the ball round Berg and laid off an open goal to Raul at Old Trafford. Capello also described him as "tactically perfect".

Stoichkov deserves a mention for his Barcelona days and the 1994 World Cup where he won the Golden Boot despite playing for Bulgaria.

forgot redondo one of the greatest ever

Believe it or not, Chris Sutton for me. His technique at holding up a ball was fucking amazing to watch. Zanetti has also been a favourite of mine. Also Angloma at Valencia, he was some fullback too. Brian Laudrup in his peak was also amazing.

Tino.  :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

So many people have got the criteria spectacularly wrong.

I still don't know what it is honestly

Haha, neither do I. Just naming a load of players I liked that aren't completely obvious. Paul McGrath. David Robertson.

The criteria is simple:  players who were your favorites who aren't Messi, Zidane, Ronaldo, Platini, Cruyff, Pele, Maradona, Ronaldinho, etc...

Scifo is a good example.  How many would mention him when talking about the best players?  But it doesn't detract from just how brilliant he was.  Redondo is another good example to me.  You mention him, and everybody goes, "Oh yeah.  That guy was class."
