Man, people are being overly harsh on Best. He's doing his, er, best, with what he has to work with alongside him. The Enigma that is Shola Ameobi leaves everyone in awe, including team mates. At this point in time, if Best gets into the position, I'd have more faith in him to convert the chance than Nile Ranger.

Like we've got better than Best on the bench.

Ranger is more mistake-inducing - especially against Ferdinand and Bramble.

Agree - I think his pace in behind, given all we're doing is launching long balls into the right hand side channel, would be more effective.

I lost all respect for Guthrie when he faked that injury vs. W.B.A.

Barton shouldn't have a card.

Ameobi should have scored in the 2nd minute.

Best has won a couple of decent flick-ons, he's always going to be a bit-part player in games like this, where everything is so scrappy and he gets so little service.

Tbf, Guthrie had minimal warmup time and was thrown in there. Wasn't a bad 15 minutes despite that pass.

That pass? He made many bad passes.

Best is not contributing enough, has lost just about every aerial ball except maybe one or two, looks a yard or two off bramble etc. needs to find a way to get involved in play in the way shola has, even if shola has been his usual idiotic self at least he's been a big presence in the game.

Guthrie looks worse than Smith so far. basically picked up where he left off against west brom. heartless podgy fucker.

And Nolan seems rusty to me, he keeps being ever so slightly on the wrong side of the ball and has to try and awkwardly control it against onrushing opposition. suppose that's because the pace of the game has been too fast for him. he'll look better if we can slow the game down and keep it long enough for him to burst into the box.

Colo, despite being turned by bent early on, which couldve cost us a goal, has been immense.we'd certainly be losing this game if it wasnt for him. Williamson in contrast has looked on the verge of a catastrophe for most of that half, though fortunately he's mostly gotten away with his haphazardness.

cant believe pardew started smith and replaced the little bitch with guthrie

he clearly has no idea how s*** either of them are

Massive ask for Gosling to be thrown into a derby after so long out though.

Can't help thinking Guthrie is another victim of the haters on here. Was injured himself for much of the season. Yes, he's struggled since he's been back, but people on here easily forget what he did for us last year and instead suggest he's "heartless".

Pathetic, frankly.

The Barton booking was a joke btw and unfairly puts pressure on him.

Agreed, the next time he went in for the tackle, he went in so half hearted you could see it had affected him.

A joke, considering the tackle that put Smith out of the game went unpunished.

He shouldn't play for us again after feigning injury when he fucked up.

Would you want to rely on the guy in the heat of a battle?
