Darren Bent Signs for Aston Villa

Hate to say it, but if the quoted 11m for Pavlyuchenko is in Harry's coffers + 6m owed from Bent...it could easily be bye bye Andy Carroll :(.

don't be silly

Think of who owns the club.

25m + would easily make the FCB's mouth drool.

If

18m is too high for Bent bid, this player is not worth anywhere near that much money

Why not?

If Bent carries on delivering 1 goal in every 2 games, he is worth every single penny.

Bent was bought by Spurs for 16.5m three years ago, and since leaving them his scoring record has been superb. He's only 26, so I don't really see how anyone can clearly say "he's not worth it".

It's also fair enough when people say "yeah by VdV only cost 8m" but that negates the fact that VdV was an absolute steal.

Interesting fact. If you take Bent's goals out of Sunderland's side, they would have scored the least amount of goals in the league with a pitiful 18. Its crazy selling a player who is that important, and they won't replace him properly either.

If someone's willing to pay that (or 24m even), then that's what he's worth.

You're confusing price with value. If someone is willing to pay £24m, then that's what he costs, not what he's worth. By your reasoning, Michael Owen was worth £17m or whatever FFS paid for him, which is evidently untrue.

For Sunderland this seems a bad deal, regardless of the money. Similar to Carroll, letting Bent go sends all the wrong signals and will probably damage the team more than help it improve.

The only thing I can think is that Bent himself, and his agent etc, have forced this move through and made it clear that he won't play for Sunderland any more. If a player is going to be unhappy or cause trouble, then cashing in is sometimes the lesser of two evils.

£18m for a '1 in 2' striker, proven in the Prem and suited to Houllier's preferred formation, is a decent deal for Villa.

Transfer fees for big players have so stupid now it's almost farcical to try and judge anyone's worth. For every £8m Van der Vaart there's a £20m James Milner.

Had to laugh at the article where Steve Bruce whines about being "let down" by Bent, with the line about how "everyone supported him". Really? All the mackems have been right behind him, eh Stevie? I reckon the man himself might disagree with that one.

It's as stupid as asking "What is it about Steve Bruce that makes you want to kick him in the balls, hard?"

Football's like that.

We were all gutted when we lost Milner (and some of us Barry, too). Bruce is gutted to lose Bent. Now he'll go to Wigan and buy N'Zogbia and Rodallega, who will in turn be gutted.

It is all very hypocritical

True, it was just an amusing sidebar - Bruce's media antics over the past week suggest he's living in a different world...

Bruce consistently lives in a different reality. He seems to consistently whine on about how they're missing a bit of luck - er, excuse me Steve, you've been one of the (if not the most) fortunate sides this year. They've become solid this year and a better team but their position is more a reflection of a) the fact other sides who should be up there are struggling, and b) the fact they've rode their luck consistently this year. Actually, just when they looked to be having a lull on that front, the Gyan goal happened.

He's a decent manager, but nothing more IMO. Let's see where they finish.

Daily Mail reckon Spurs will see £6m of the initial £18m by way of a £3m sell on fee and £3m unpaid instalments.

Basically this leaves them without Bent or, come the end of the season when Fergie refuses to sell him, Welbeck and just enough money to sign the rest of the players they currently have on loan. Don't know how this can be interpreted as anything other than a bad deal for them.

Ahahaha!!

This is a terrible move by Sunderland
