Theyve already said his attitude and work rate was very good while here.

Was he not threatened with being disciplined for breaching club rules when he was photographed in Tup Tup the night before we played away to Stoke while he was supposed to be injured?

Pardew laughed the whole thing off IIRC.

He wouldn't have been fit to play v Stoke anyway. A total mountain out of a molehill situation.

As said, Carroll did far worse yet people turned a blind eye as he did the business on the pitch.

The point is that he wasn't fit to play and had breached club rules according to Pardew.  As for Carroll, who turned a blind eye?

He did.

For 2m I would take a punt depending on where we get with other targets over the summer. Could see Ireland being Nolans replacement. Still rather see Matuidi, Barnetta/Zog and Erding in first.

We have enough if to get us through the season if we get our current targets, however if Ireland is available at that price at the end of the window I think we will take him and I wouldnt be unhappy at all.

If we can somehow offload Xisco he'd be a good replacement. They'd be on similar wages and there's always the possibility that he might be good at some point.

Saying that, if Ireland actually gets on the pitch then it's got to be considered an improvement.

Bit of a gamble but at 2m or so a gamble worth taking if he's available, he is a player who has shown he can do it in the premier league (and to a high level too) the only issue is the injury he had for the 2nd half of last season and being honest, wouldn't be the first gamble on that front we've taken this summer

Sure he's a bit odd (maybe a slight understatement there) but its not really one that hinders his performance as he was odd at man city at his best too. Plus in the past he has played on the right (most of his limited time for Ireland was on the right and he was brilliant there 4 goals in 6 games) so another good squad player to fill in elsewhere when needed

Aye, guess it is worth the gamble if it's only a £2 million fee.

Not saying this is true with Mick, who blatantly doesn't rate the guy, but I can't help but feel that Ireland was say a French player from a random European league, coming in for £2m with similar form and circumstances behind him, there'd be a lot more willing to fight his corner.

There seems to be a lot of caution on here when it comes to British-based players these days.

Completely agree with this.

Taylor, raylor, Campbell, smith, Guthrie, duff, Owen, perch, not the best batch

Aye, the caution is because generally if you want good British players you have to pay through the nose for it. We don't, so most of them are shit. And even when we did (Owen) we got royally fucked the other way.

Ireland is the sort of player who over the past 4-5 summers if we'd seen him leave for another club we'd be thinking, "We should have taken a punt on him at that price".

Ireland's been crap/injured for the last 2 years where as Barton is playing the best football of his career.  And he's 28 man, not 36.  We could get another 4 years of quality out of him.

To swap these 2 now would be criminal.

Genuinely surprised at the amount of people turning their noses up at Ireland. He's a very talented footballer who's lost his way somewhat, obviously he's a bit of a prick but he strikes me as an 'arm around the shoulder' type guy, much like Ben arfa.

My only concern would be finding a role for him, his fee looks to be minimal, so that lessens the outlay with his larger wages but having him on the bench wouldn't sit well with him, which leads to his brattish attitude, unfortunately for him, his place is occupied by a supremely talented player.

Why can't Ireland get back to his form? Barton did and Nolan did after 3 to 4 years of mediocrity so don't know why Ireland can't particularly at his age.

Because he's got a pink car.

Ireland has been crap (arguably) for only one season. Half of it he didn't play.

It basically comes down to 4 months of bad form.
