Mikky
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/32455354 Alex Ferguson giving a good little insight into his view on Messi vs Ronaldo, paraphrashing a bit - "Ronaldo can go play for QPR, Millwall and score a hat trick because he's got two feet, strong in the air and very brave. I don't think Messi could do the same. Messi is a Barcelona player". Interesting view from probably the best manager of all time, if you have an entire team built around Messi's strengths, then Messi can probably look better than Ronaldo. But Ferguson reckons Ronaldo can raise the level of the team on his own. From this mentality alone, Ferguson is comparing Ronaldo more with Maradona than Messi in his ability to carry a team alone. Not biased at all from Sir Alex. Still smarting from when Messi raped his team in 2 CL finals

Ronaldo
Surprised SAF has so much loyalty to CRon, mind. He was saying Ancelotti was the best manager he'd ever worked with about 3 weeks after Real appointed him.

Scotty66
Village Idiot might know the real answer to this but it is true Glasgow Rangers actually tried to sign Messi on loan after Alex Mcleish's son found Messi on Football Manager (or Championship Manager as it was known then) Would have been interesting to see how Messi coped against players who also eat babies
Village Idiot
I don't know about the CM scouting bit, but it's true that Rangers sought to loan Messi when he was still a Barça B player. We had a bit of a relationship with them at the time, having sold Arteta to them.
Scotty66
His stats were insane for a 15/16 year old (perhaps younger?). Apparently Alex's son kept banging on about it and that led to Rangers making the enquiry. They were politely but quickly told "no chance"

Mole_Toonfan
Thinking he's better is fine, it's an opinion. But the reasoning used is just nonsense, Messi constantly wins games by himself and makes his team better. Where was this superior mentality when Portugal were knocked out of the group stages ?? Not his fault obviously but if he were actually like this then surely he'd be able to get Portugal past the yanks? Ronaldo is a fantastic player but I really struggle to see the logic. Village Idiot
What does my head in is the whole "Ronaldo is more complete" argument, just because he can score from headers or something. There's no way Ronaldo could drop to midfield and do the things Messi does there, for example.

So that's why Ronaldo does so well in major international tournaments Ronaldo has carried portugal tons of times, Where was messi in the final ? Portugal didn't get past the group stages mate with Ronaldo missing loads of chances against Ghana iirc. And don't give me this shit that the rest of the Portugal team were basically part timers. They very nearly got to a Euro 2012 final two years before. Also a very limited USA qualified from their group. I presume you are talking about the Sweden playoff when you talk of great Ronaldo performances for Portugal. The only reason they needed a playoff is because they couldn't finish ahead of Russia, who were also very limited. Surely if Ronaldo was always so good for Portugal, he could've guided them to victory over Russia
Scotty66
Someone once asked me who I'd rather have in my team,Messi or Ronaldo. I chose Ronaldo. I don't think there's no right or wrong answer tbh, people will always have different opinions. But for me in my make believe fantasy team and the style and system I would play,Ronaldo would be far more effective than Messi.
