Football's greatest - where does Lionel Messi rank?

Zidane's mental strength wasn't exactly the best. Make no mistake, he was completely big time and was meant for that stage, but everyone knows his temperament wasn't the best.

i was just reading your other post when you said people will look back at what he did and appreciate it and you're right but what does he actually have left to prove as an individual now?  everything people pull out on him he ends up achieving, how many times have we heard he "can't play against english teams", "hasn't scored in england", "doesn't turn up in big games", "can play as a winger but can't dominate games" etc. etc.

he shits on all of them, so the only thing left to level at the lad is argentina and it's a poor argument given the 2 WC managers he's had...iirc he was alright last world cup, better than alright actually, but maradona lacked any expertise whatsoever to exploit that and push on imo

given his age he can't be deemed the all time best yet, but if he does it for another 5 years or so he will be

From top to bottom. Goals, WC, Goals with hand, powder inhaled, kisses man on the mouth? , fat made into a pig, overdoses requiring hospital, ate (fucked) top model Xuxa.

:aww:

There we have it.

54 goals so far and barca having their worst league season in what 3-4 years?

Incredible stat but why does it matter if Barca are having their worst season in almost 4 years? Andy Johnson scored plenty for a bad Crystal Palace side, Yakubu is scoring for Blackburn. And also Barca are on track to score more this season than last, so your last part is irrelevant.

Messi is incredible, win a world cup and prove you can win outside your comfort zone with Xavi, Dani Alves, Iniesta and Cesc providing you with tons of assists and we will discuss it. Maradona was excellent, and if Messi doesnt win a World Cup he wont be conssidered the greatest in his home nation.

Oh and Pele > Maradona.

if barca were dominating away games as they'd done in the few seasons prior to this one there's a strong chance he'd have scored more goals so aye, it has some relevance

But they are on verge of scoring more than last season. So theyre not really having a worse season by goalscoring means now are they?

They are much more dominant at home, but their away record compared to last season is pretty awful.

The must win WC is rubbish imo, Di Stefano, Cruyff, Puskas, Eusebio etc etc never won it why does Messi need to? he has already dominated the club scene for nearly half a decade and shows no sign of letting up.

Plus Club level is a higher level than WC now imo and has been since the 80s.

Also whats this rubbish about having to prove yourself outside your comfort zone? No one ever said Maldini had to leave Milan, Eusebio had to leave Benfica, Di Stefano had to leave Madrid etc etc.

He's not there yet as far as iam concerned but he can get there if he keeps dominating at club level the way he has been in the last few years.

I for one think its stupid how much hype is around winning a WC,a month long tournament that happens once every 4 years after playing around 50+ game season.

European Cup/CL > World Cup, Always has been and always will be.
