Other clubs' transfers

Arteta is Real Sociedad through and through too, can't really see him trading Everton for them (Xabi Alonso too).

After the season Arteta just had a move would probably suit both player & club tbh. He's also got a young son now. Can't see Bilbao being able to pay a high enough transfer fee though?

Mind you, I'd love nothing more than for him to stay here and get his form back because he's a class act.

Athletic have already forked €10m for Herrera, can't see them offering double figures for any more players this season, unless they lose one of their big guns (Martínez or Llorente)

Everton and QPR have asked for Canales on loan, according to "As", although they say Luís Enrique's Roma are favorites (would suit Canales better, imho).

We haven't sold him yet

Carlton Cole's proposed £4.5m transfer from West Ham United to Stoke City has collapsed. Stoke had agreed a fee with West Ham that would rise to £6m including add-ons but Cole has rejected the chance to move to the Britannia Stadium.

Earlier in the week the Stoke chairman, Peter Coates, revealed that the Midlands club had failed to sign Cole on three previous occasions.

Cole's failure to agree terms has left West Ham as well as Stoke disappointed. West Ham are keen to off-load players to reduce their wage bill and free up funds to add to their own squad.

Tony Pulis, meanwhile, will be forced to turn his attention elsewhere in his pursuit of a striker. The Stoke manager has already had a bid rejected for the Birmingham City forward Cameron Jerome.

Wouldn't surprise me if we made a move now to be honest.

Why would we make a move now if we haven't done it before? Cole will never be a Newcastle player.

Because we have less options to choose from since we were initially linked with him.

It's just a few days ago Stoke had their bid accepted. Why didn't we match that if we're interested?

Because we weren't interested! Now that the number of strikers available to us that we actively seek to purchase has dropped, maybe we are now. We might put a bid in now.

It is TWO DAYS since Stoke had their bid accepted. Between Tuesday and today we haven't lost out on any of our striker targets.

Well we have lost out on Erdinç. But I hope something positive is happening with at least one of those three continental strikers we're supposed after now.

No we haven't. The latest tweets from Mark Douglas suggest we are very much in the mix for him. Apparently he's the striker Pardew talked about on the presser today.

We could have easily been in talks with other strikers and not thinking about Carlton Cole though. We made bids for strikers who turned us down, then we chase Erding who is unlikely to come, now Carlton Cole's deal has collapsed we are possibly turning to him. So you are saying just because we didn't bid for him we are not interested? There is a while to go in the transfer market and Carlton Cole will be well down the list of possible striker options.

Just had a look there at Douglas' Twitter, suddenly things are looking up again regarding Erdinç (not holding my breath though).

EDIT: 6 days left to sort his transfer out :pow:
