Yohan Cabaye (now sporting coordinator at Paris Saint-Germain)

Recommended Posts

No one was prepared to bid more than £10m for him, and France had decent results without him in the side. I imagine Cabaye's had a bit of a reality check about how highly he's really rated and will be pretty desperate to put in some eye catching performances if only to cement his place in the France line up for the WC. Pardew didn't need to say anything really, when the window was open it's not as if Cabaye took a blind bit of notice when he was pushing for a move.

How was he today?

I would say decent is a fair description. Played well enough, didn't do anything spectacular but wasn't invisible.

Had a shot he probably should have put across the box but tbh most players would have done the same in his position and he wasn't far off.

Played as an attacking mid with Anita and Sissoko behind him.  He was general average.  Didn't do anything of note except a shot near the end of the first half that might have been better to try and play across the goal.  Didn't give the ball away or put in any stupid challenges though.  I can't remember him creating anything though.

I thought Ben Arfa should have been sliding across to get a toe on it tbh.

Na watched it back and he was nowhere near, I think cabaye should have rolled it across.

re mole and wil...

he played like he did in that 6 win spell season before last, much further forward doing all the work chasing so the wider two can drop onto the full backs (re watch the swansea away game)

Oh i agree, he was very important to how we played his work rate for example was fantastic.

I just felt that he could of expressed himself a little more, i'm sure that will come though first start of the season and all that.

Log on to www.nufc.co.uk on Monday for an exclusive interview with Cabaye, where he reveals all about the transfer window and his future at Newcastle.

Going to be some PR spin that the club has suggested he do.

As for his performance, agree that it was fairly average but certainly no worse. He will have much better days if we stick with this system.

He worked very hard indeed, and did the simple things OK, but the creative stuff just didn't come off for him. Noted 3 or 4 times when he sharp filled in at LB after Santon had been further up the pitch with Villa on the counter attack. Very important to see players (who are apparently in a huff) do this sort of thing, as it shows commitment and good preparation.

Thought he did while we were in possession, but he over-committed in an almost prideful way when he lost the ball (similar to what Beckham used to do), and Villa just pinged the ball around him and opened up space in the middle of the park. Ah well, still rate him and think he'll come good again.

Hasn't played as the furthest forward midfielder for about 2 years so think it just needs time. Certainly helped us having him constantly pressing their players high up the pitch.

Think that position will suit him better in home games where he will get more time to try and pick out runs of the front 3 and thread the ball through like we know he can.

no reason why he couldn't rotate that furthest up pressing role with sissoko.

So what we expecting from this interview then?

I'm going for the standard "had my head turned, I'm a Newcastle player and I'll give my all", type spiel.
