So far we'd line up like so.

                    Tiote

Barton      Cabaye    Jonas

          Ben Arfa

                        Whoever we get

Add Zoggy to that and i'll be buzzing

So 2 Strikers now the priority

And Maybe

Left Back Cover or Replacement

Centre Half

Right Back

                 Tiote

               Cabaye

Winger                       Winger

                 Ben Arfa

             Striker

Looks f***ing tasty like.  How this happened to us I'll have no idea.

Ah yes. The infamous winger brothers joining the Taylors and the Ameobis. We'll be a real family club.

Don't understand why people keep leaving out Jonas from their starting line-ups, he should be the last of those players in the current set up that needs to be left out imo

Absolutely true. The reason he hasn't REALLY "delivered" is because he has been the only real outlet in a midfield devoid of pace and ideas. In the coming season, with Tiote, Cabaye and HBA, add to that a signing of the N'Zogbia ilk, we will surely see a different Jonas. Fantastic professional who is probably one of the last I would sell at this point.

If we sign Zog, and we're going going two wingers/inside forwards off a central striker - Jonas wouldn't be in the team imo. HBA and Zog either side of Ba looks pretty tasty. It's not like he wouldn't get plenty of game-time though, plus he'd be a superb option off the bench. He  had a really good end to the season and it'd be a shame to see him relegated to a bit-part role, but i don't think there's any danger of that.

I also hope that there's absolutely no chance of him being sold.

Actually, I would rather like Gutierrez in the middle having Barton on the wing. Why? Offers more energy to midfield in defence, and offers more speed going forward. One can say alot about our argie, but he do know how to carry the ball. And he played exceptionally well in the middle against chelsea. Think it really could be a formula for success with him comming forward with the ball linking up with players playing small one twos as he enjoys with enrique.

I'd never have Gutierrez off the wing tbh. He needs space to operate and would be crowded out in the middle. He's not technically brilliant so there's no use having him anywhere other than up and down the wing, where his primary attributes can be used to better effect. IE stamina, pace and determination. I think he'd be completely ineffectual in the middle cos there'd be a man on his tail as soon as he retrieved the ball. Could see him surrendering possession quite frequently.

Pretty much agree with this. Jonas is more of a threat running at players - the wing is pretty much the only place where he can do this effectively, like you've said.

Kieron Dyer? Did he have more about him than Jonas does in terms of how they play? I reckon Dyer had more pace, but I see them as very similar players.

according to the print version of the sun he struggled to hold down a first team spot last season in lille.............................36 out of 38 league games.

Top notch journalism

more so that if someone signs for a club who aren't in that top 6 clique then do them down. to be fair it worked the other way for us in the past when they were licking our arses.

Quotes from him in L'Equipe today.

"I wanted to discover another type of football, a new atmosphere. There, I will be playing in the best league in the world with a club aiming to be in Europe in one year"

Clearly Pardew's laying out his ambitions to our targets.

NEWCASTLE United new boy Yohan Cabaye hopes his parting shot to the Lille dressing room might pave the way for team-mate Gervinho to join him on Tyneside.

Cabaye, pictured above, completed his £4.3million switch from the French double winners to Newcastle on Friday – and he is determined to put roots down in the North East.

Within 24 hours of touching down in Newcastle he had put an offer in on a house in the area and despite a shaky understanding of English, he has pledged to carry out his next interview in fluent Geordie.

That settling in period might be aided by helping to recruit coveted Lille star Gervinho, pictured right, to St James’ Park – a move that, unlike the aborted plan to lure Kevin Gameiro, is not yet dead in the water.

Although he is not a priority target United’s interest in Gervinho is NOT over.

And Cabaye reckons the Ivory Coast forward is keen to come to Newcastle, despite the interest of Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham in the deal.

He told the Sunday Sun: “Gervinho is a player I like a lot – on and off the pitch.

“When we played together in Lille, I told him he must come and join me at Newcastle as well! I think he listened. Now we will see what happens.”

Unlike the Cabaye deal – revealed in the Sunday Sun a fortnight ago – it has emerged that there’s nothing straightforward about Gervinho’s mooted move to Newcastle.

With multiple agents working on his behalf, Toon have been quoted four or five different prices for the forward over the past fortnight. No detailed negotiations have taken place with Lille as yet and the confusion over who represents him is not helping matters.

Indeed, all the while the club have been beavering away on other targets because they are concerned about potential African Nations Cup commitments come January.

But despite all that grey area, there is still a chance Gervinho could come to St James’ Park in time for the new season.

That would clearly enthuse Cabaye, who took advice from former Newcastle players Franck Dumas, David Rozenhal and Newcastle target Charlie N’Zogbia before opting to make the move.

And while he says he is not concerned about living up to the reputation of the likes of David Ginola, Laurent Robert and Olivier Bernard, he has revealed that he didn’t have a moment’s hesitation signing for Newcastle.

He said: “The French connection didn’t influence my decision but I took the advice of Dumas, N’Zogbia, David Rozenhal into account in moving here.”

And he was said he was “impressed” by manager Alan Pardew’s plans for him.

Cabaye is a technically gifted box-to-box French international midfielder who will offer energy and drive in midfield.

Interestingly he also took penalties for Lille – not that Newcastle are looking for a new specialist with spot-kick king Shola Ameobi in their ranks.

Pardew clearly left an impression on his new charge.

“I was especially concerned to find out about the desires that the manager had,” the player said.

“I went and talked to him and he answered all my questions. That was very important.

“I was very impressed by Alan, he said he likes to play football in a passing style and he also knew a lot about me.

“He answered all the questions I had. I knew it was the right move after talking to him.”

Full quotes from this morning's L'Equipe.

"I wanted to discover another type of football, a new atmosphere. There, I will be playing in the best league in the world with a club aiming to be in Europe in one year I am the first signing but more will follow. This year, I was given permission by management to leave if a proposition came up that interested me, this was the case with Newcastle. I leave with the satisfaction of having a great season. I leave Lille on a League & Cup double, I could not ask for more. With seven seasons there, I wanted to discover something different."

After a move to a mid-table club, Yohan Cabaye has taken a risk not to be selected for the France squad. He added

"The most important thing for me is to play football. At Newcastle, I know I will. I'm not a regular in the France side but I made my first two starts in June, and that's given me the taste for more. I also know that had I stayed at Lille and not performed well then I'd also not be picked. For me to be good with my new club, I know I'll not be forgotten".

Another interview this time on RMC.

Recently transferred to Newcastle, Yohan Cabaye came to talk to us at Larqué Foot on RMC (radio station). The former Lille man was surprised, and enjoyed his discussions with the bosses from the Premier League side. "I made my decision based on the club and the league. What they said to me impressed me. Newcastle aren't in Europe but have the ambition to get there quickly. It's a fairly legendary club with a beautiful stadium and good supporters. There's a big project. What surprised me is that they knew me so well. They assured me that I will play, and with me we'll play a passing game that I should play. They assured that I will play but if I don't perform, it will soon change."
