Yohan Cabaye

Recommended Posts

28 years old, playing under a naive manager in many regards, club showed very little ambition in his time here.. Unless he loves the area and appreciates the fans immensely, he has to move on for his career. He'll have dreamt about trophies when he was a bairn like we all did.

Sad that we won't match his ambition and say we will try to get into the Champions League and do our best in the cups. Our manager admits cups aren't a priority and he has spoken more than once of being glad we're not in the Europa League. Who wants to play for someone like that?

Big exaggeration IMO.

Yes, if he wants to win the CL etc etc he has to move on, fair enough. That's the case for most players at most clubs. But he's competing in the best league in the world and he's likely to go to the WC as an important player for France. It's not like he's scrabbling around the conference.

Then again, he needs to pick a move carefully or he might end up warming a very successful bench.

The point is he won't achieve anything of significance with us or (in my opinion) reach his full potential; but I agree, it's not like we're some footballing outpost.

Sure, you can only achieve the top honours by playing for 3 or 4 clubs, less in some leagues. And true, if Cabaye wants that he'll have to leave. But that's just stating the obvious, I don't think there's any conclusion you can draw from it that means anything.

Yup, I think it's more the point that football is in a pretty wanky state rather than Cabaye is disloyal or an agitator or anything.

Whey, I can agree with the first but not the last bit of that.

Cups sadly seem to come second to the Premiership. Personally I don't like or understand that. But we nearly overcame Man City in the LC, we looked set up to win the FA cup tie against Cardiff but buggered it up.

I don't think we aimed to go out of either competition. It was only in October he contradicted the club’s money minded bods – who had said in the fans forum that cups were not a priority – by saying he wanted to win some silverware.

Regarding Europe. If you remove any context from the quotes and repeat the idea often enough, it tends to stick. But while he clearly (like most clubs tbf) hates the format of the competition, it's not to the extent of not wanting to be part of it again.

"We have the same points total as we did when we finished fifth after the same amount of games, so we have got to take that belief into the second half of the season and try to improve on it.

"If we can, then we have a chance of Europe, and that must be a realistic goal for us in the position we are in at the moment."

Asked if Europe is still a target given last season's difficulties, Pardew said: "Yes".

Europe so he can use it as an excuse. Fun fun fun.

Get used to him making excuses as you put it. Doesn't mean he's not as desperate to win something as the rest of us.

Right but the two are not independent of each other. Making excuses obscure the real problems of the team including inadequate players and Pardew's god awful tactics which then makes finding solutions to these problems unlikely. So the excuses are working against his desperation to win something

Cabaye delighted that close pal Debuchy has made such a big impression

24 Jan 2014 07:21

Yohan Cabaye hails Mathieu Debuchy as the suspended star comes back for clash with Norwich to boost Newcastle United

Yohan Cabaye has heaped praise on the returning Mathieu Debuchy.

The France international returns from suspension to face Norwich City on Tuesday night and Cabaye feel he has made massive progress since making his debut at Carrow Road 12 months ago.

Debuchy is likely to slot straight back into Alan Pardew’s starting XI in the encounter with the Canaries.

Cabaye said: “It was difficult for Mathieu when he first came here last January because the team was not doing well.

“It is always tough to change your country and your club.

“He couldn’t speak English or understand it, so myself, Sylvain (Marveaux) and Gabby (Obertan) used to translate for him.

“It took a bit of time for him to adapt, but now he understands what the Premier League is about.

“He has a great mentality, great fight and great fitness, and is a big player for the team.”

Debuchy was sent off against West Bromwich Albion on New Year’s Day in the 1-0 defeat for a tackle on Claudio Yacob which resulted in a three-game ban, meaning he sat out the games against Cardiff City in the FA Cup, Manchester City and West Ham.

Debuchy is now celebrating his first full year on Tyneside after arriving from Lille in last January’s transfer window.

Both Debuchy and Cabaye are likely to be in France’s World Cup squad for the finals in Brazil.

But the pair will be eager to help the club push on and qualify for Europe this season.

The Magpies’ chances of a Europa League spot will be boosted if Man City beat Sunderland in the League Cup final, with a win for the Citizens meaning that sixth place in the league would mean European football qualification next term.

Cabaye will be looking to link up with Debuchy in the remaining 16 games of the season and knows he is now settled into life in the Premier League.

The midfielder said: “I’ve played with Mathieu for the last seven or eight years, so we know each other.

“It’s easy. Sometimes I don’t even need to look to the right side. I know where he will be there and I just have to send him the best pass I can to get him forward.

“After all this time it’s natural.”

Cabaye took his tally of goals to seven after notching against West Ham last weekend.

And the midfield man has now beaten his tally for last season.

He said: “I always set myself targets for everything. With goals, my aim is to better the amount I scored the previous season.”

Cabaye and his team-mates returned from Abu Dhabi yesterday and are now looking ahead to Norwich next Tuesday. And Cabaye added: “We played well against Man City but lost.

“We knew it would be tough at West Ham, but we were focused and we won.

“We had 10 days to get ready for Norwich.

“It will be tough but we are happy.”

I just hope Man United don't get him. It's pissing me off seeing plastic fans online talking about Cabaye and Newcastle like we're some sort of feeder club for them, waiting to hand Cabaye over whenever they want him. Most of them haven't a fucking clue what Cabaye is even like, they're just mad for him because the media keeps mentioning his name.
