Although Stoke are being predictably turgid, Hadjuk are playing canny s**** themselves.

Welcome to the Europa Cup. It's criminal the extent to which UEFA have fucked it up.

It's a pre-qualifying round to be fair to it like, hardly going to be Barça v Arsenal. Not that the competition isn't severely devalued by the daft group stages, CL being too big & CL dropouts.

Pretty amazed at how well Strømsgodset have done against Atletico Madrid. If they keep their current crop of players they might actually be quite a good side even by european standards in two-three seasons.

Possibly the best time they could have played Atlético though. Preseason barely started, they just lost their best player and haven´t got around to spend the windfall yet... Plus according to the Spanish color commentator "the ball bounces differently in Norway and they are used to it".

Went on to Birmingham forum before to see if there was anything about how Hughton is getting on, only to realise their European draw is tomorrow and that was dominating the chit chat. Even though they're a division below and it's only the obscure opening rounds of the Europa League I couldn't help feel a little jelly. :(

Agree entirely, not that i went on any away trips. Nice being in a tournament where there's an inkling of a feeling you could win it, or at least be worthy of a place in the latter rounds. And those games in 06/07 weren't crap at all. Couple of em were, but the home games against Celta and Fenerbahce were good. Sibi's late winner and Steven Taylor's Forrest Gump impression - good stuff. Also enjoyed Martins' piledriver against the might of Levadia Tallinn.

Dortmund – Hamburger SV the Bundesliga opener is on tonight.

Looking forward to see how Dortmund will cope without Sahin and Barrios (out for 5-6 weeks).

Likely starting team:

                        Lewandowski

       Kagawa          Götze        Kuba/Großkreutz

                   Bender/Kehl   Gündoğan

    Koch/Löwe      Subotic    Hummels     Piszczek

                           Weidenfeller

Surprisingly little activity this summer for Dortmund. Gündoğan has been brought in as Sahin´s replacement and their captain Sebastian Kehl has recovered from the injury which kept him out for all of last season. Piszczek has signed a new 5 year contract and Götze looks committed to stay for another season so at least they haven´t lost any other key players during the summer tough I'm worried that Subotic might make a switch before the transfer window closes.

With the injury to Barrios there will be a lot of pressure on Lewandowski to deliver, he wasted some clear cut chances against Schalke in the super cup (charity shield thingy) but made up for it with a brace in the first round of the German Cup. His inconsistant performances are worrying and I'll be surprised if Dortmund don´t bring in another striker.

edit: Oh yea, forgot they brought in Ivan Perišić. The top scorer and player of the year in the Belgian league last season, not sure what is best position is tough.
