It's not because he offers any particularly interesting insight into the game, or anything like that of course. He's just absolutely superb at hyping up every little thing. Every game is unmissably important, every pass is brilliant, every piece of defending is amazing, every error is understandable and out of character but you can see what he was trying to do and that's arguably just as praiseworthy as not making the error in the first place. For example if you've ever watched the darts, he reckons Mervyn King is told to wear earplugs and Paul Nicholson is told to act like a cunt. So Wilkins is probably told to be a cunt.
