Yeah, I liked that design a lot to to be frank, and it related well to the Art Noveau architecture the city is most famous for. But it was thrown out by the new board, insanely expensive too.

The led light thing pushed in today's article does sound very tacky. Our stadium turned into a shiny rotating Nike billboard.

Know this is a few days old and perhaps it's already been discussed, but quite interesting comments imo.

Can somebody tell me if it's true that the Spanish clubs are exempted from paying their debt, or if Hoeness is just talking out of his arse?

Is the Real Madrid+Barcelona domination of European football a result of the irresponsible fiscal behavior we've seen at the national level, or would it be unfair to blame the state for the debt of the Spanish football sides?

If Spain turn into the new Greece, will we keep seeing Spanish football clubs that, contrary to the reality, give the impression of Spain as a healthy and blossoming economy?

"Bayern Munich chief Uli Hoeness has slammed the behaviour of Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Considering the European debt crisis, Hoeness is furious over the spending of Real and Barca.

Ahead of tomorrow's Champions League draw, Hoeness barked: "For me this is ridiculous, it is unthinkable.

"We (Germany) paid hundreds of millions of euros (to Spain) to get out of the s*** and then the clubs are exempted from paying their debt to pay for stars like Cristiano (Ronaldo) or Lionel Messi. This cannot be."

Hoeness continued: "Only Madrid owe more money than all the Bundesliga."

"Only Madrid owe more money than all the Bundesliga."

if there's remotely any truth in that the fact they're even in europe is a joke man, when do the rules come into effect?

According to wiki it will be the 2014/15 season

Football clubs wishing to take part in the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League must balance their football-related expenditure over a three-year period up to the 2014/15 season.[29]

The 2011/2012 season is the first season which counts towards the 2014/15 assessment; however clubs will be allowed to make a loss of 45m euros (£39.4m) over the three years, falling to 30m euros from 2015/16. The first season that UEFA will begin actively monitoring the financial situation of individual clubs is 2013/14, but this will take into account losses made in the two preceding years (2011/12 and 2012/13)

There is no mention of debt so doubt it will make a difference to Real

6 of Madrid's last 11 games:

Villarreal A

Valencia H

Atl. Madrid A

Barcelona A

Sevilla H

Athletic A

I said the gap would be closed it's just by how much, I think RM have done just enough mind.

Be nice if Simeone actually got Atleti to turn up for a change in the derby.

Can't remember last time Atletico won the madrid derby?

I forgot that the Atletico games are basically free wins for Real.

Aye, just like when we play the mackems.  Must be something to do with red & white strips.

Wiki says 99/00 was the last time they won (the season they went down), 98/99 at the Calderon.

They've won 2 games at home to Real since 1984. Hideous.

Atletico Pathetico indeed.

Very similar to some local rivals we face every season...:)

Messi only needs 1 more goal to equal Barca's all-time record goalscorer, after a recount had Cesar on 232 goals rather than 235.

He'll probably score 5 in his next game anyway.

Pointless, he would've passed that in about a week anyway.

He now needs 2 more goals to pass that record, and equal his personal record of 53 goals in one season (which was his record from last season.)

3 more goals would see him equal the club record of league goals in one season (which he also held, level with Ronaldo.)

Yep he will break the record IMO tonight, also as Barca play first and pretty much certain they will win it will be down to 4 points before Madrid go to Villarreal.

Anyone reckon that its possible that they could start to feel the pressure?
