Gabriel Obertan signs for Anzhi

With Giggs on the precipice of claiming his winter fuel allowance at the post office, Nani being a bit of a dickhead, and Ji Sung Park being Ji Sung Park, it's a case of either Fergie knowing Obertan is a headless chicken with artifical cheetah legs or Fergie himself losing the plot entirely. A gamble that probably has casino-addict Ashley foaming at the mouth.

My God, we're signing this c*** are we?  Ferguson appears to have regretted signing him from day 1.  This is progress.  This is what you can do when you accept £35m for one of your best players and have this kind of money to play with.  I'm sorry but I don't want this guy, I've seen him play a few times and he doesn't appear to possess a brain.  I'd actually rather sign no-one and give players like Ferguson and Vuckic more time on the pitch.  Waste of time, just desperate.

I'm sorry, but that is some pretty astonishing shit!

Seen him play 5 times in 2 years, he's shit

It's starting to get a bit silly now.

I saw him miss what looked like a sitter for Man U. He's shit.

When I saw "what looked like a sitter" I was in a crowded bar, Match of the Day was on a telly across the far side and I think a bald player in red missed from 5 yards with open goal.

Might have been a good clearance I suppose.

Might have been Arsenal.

Or Barnsley.

But that's enough for me!

He's shit.

Can't believe literally 95% think he's shit

I sense a few are saying that because you had your hopes set on N'Zogbia, and Obertan doesn't appear to be as good as him.

He's another body in and for all anyone knows, he could flourish a bit more if he's given more of a chance than he was at Man Utd, which he surely would be. People are free to air their opinions about him as a player but you'd think you were buying an inanimate object if you look at some of the comments on here.

Come off it man Neil - it's the fact that we seemed to have money to spend this summer which we could have used to progress, and we've signed cheapies and non-entities.

Even Everton shelled out on a few fees after getting the Rooney money.

was thinking if this dood was joining a team such as Everton then there would be a shed load of nufc fans going ballistic that nufc were not in for him

I don't think anyone would not cheer him on, but some seem to be underwhelmed by this signing. That's fine and everyone is entitled to their view, but there is some pointlessly negative stuff banging about on here.

Disagree with the majority, he's 22, has excellent ball control, good pace and looks to pick out passes. He seems to fuck up on his final ball too much but he'll develop. My one problem is that he seems too similar to Jonas in that he can beat people and get into good positions then waste it but like I said, I think with time, confidence and being able to consistently play the same role he can be good. Like almost everyone on this board though, I haven't seen him enough.

That's who we'll bring in as an out of contract player after the window closes.

Does that concept not engage with your brain like?  That I'd rather not sign a waste of space than give our youngsters a chance instead?

I purposely didn't make a comment on him, i think the concensus on here is not exactly a happy one, i just thought sod it, if he does join then i'll treat him exactly as i do all the other players.

This is the major point against the signing of this guy though. Get's in the way for proven quality as well.

Good luck to the lad if he does in fact sign. Can honestly say i don't think I've ever seem him play, but he's young and used to be very highly thought of, so hopefully he can get back on track.

He's quick got great skill but no real end product which is bizarre when you see his other attributes.

Would much rather have preferred a loan deal. He was signed 2 years ago and has shown absolutely nothing to indicate that he has what it takes to perform in the Premier League, still we are signing him for the same price as Man U bought him and handing him a 5 year contract as well.

If he´s brought in as squad player = content

If he´s brought in as a starting player = very underwhelmed and disappointed

Doesn´t seem like much of a goal scorer judging by the statistic. Marveux and Arfa are quite injury prone so we'll probably end up pairing Jonas and Obertan on the wings in quite a few games, neither of them is a goal scorer and without Nolan we'll be relying enormously on our strikers to deliver.

Not feeling too confident about this, nice to have a body in but if Obertan is one of these "one or two" players that Pardew was saying we needed to bring in then I'm really worried about the upcoming season.

I think there will be a few worried that while all of these signings are potentially exciting, there is an unknown factor with a lot of them. Most are unproven in the premier league and that's reflected in the fees. It could turn out to be very canny business or it could go horribly wrong. People are nervous I guess.

It's an underwhelming signing and frankly I'd rather persue another option. However, I'm willing to give the lad a chance. Who knows, with a run of games and a bit of confidence he might do alright. However from what I've personally seen of him he doesn't seem much of an improvement on Routledge, hope I'm wrong.

Sorry tmonkey, I have voted for you as best football poster for a number of years but " ji sung park being ji sung park" what the fuck is that? Seriously? It's as narrow minded as saying Kuyt has been useless for Liverpool.

Some absolutely ludicrous pessimism on here based on a hand full of games. I will stand corrected if some have gone out of their way to stream all 14 of the man utd games obertan has played a part in though
