Aye, how's that then? Have we had a bad time of it with injuries this year? Which of them were down to medical incompetence?

He's talking shit as usual.  Completely forgetting that Guthrie is back 1-2 weeks early.

He was flop but only because Lyon paid well over the odds for him. If Lyon paid what we are rumoured to be paying for him now when they first bought him you wouldn't see half of the negativity you see about from some quarters. He is undoubtedly a top 10 EPL left back and if we do indeed spend around 8 million pounds for him i'd be stoked. A left footed left back would instantly improve the team imo

good wingbacks working equally good both ways are essential in modern footie. It is how every top team works regardless of what formation they use. And we would be so much better with someone like cissokho in the team rather then a marginally better winger. Back spots have often been a weak spot for us. And what is spouted around is that we want a passing game moving up the field. Our wingers doesn't need all the speed in the world. Hence we could even have Raylor on the winger wich got an excellent delivery, IF we had Santon on the right back able to get on the overlap to use speed.

How much did he pay for Colo? £8m or something? Was there special circumstances on that one?

Anyways...the fat f*** has proven quite good in the market (regardless of net spend)...albeit not enough for decent squad depth.

He paid £10 million for Colo but really that was back when Ashley had a different transfer policy.

did he?? seemed to me we went for young players (xisco, guthrie, bassong) and those out of contract or with contract issues (jonas)

This one is a non starter IMO.

Sounds like the Lyon president is trying to flush out interest. If we were in for him we would have him over here already, don't normally see much in the press until we almost have them in the bag these days, which is a credit to our transfer team.

Alternatively, our original offer still stands and we aren't budging, which is way below what they want for him. Could see us being their last resort, santons form and raylor surviving at LB puts us in the driving seat if they want to get rid.

He also paid £6 million for Alan Smith the season before.

We recently paid five million for Ben Arfa, six million for Santon and had a seven million deal for Maiga fall through. If the powers that be genuinely feel the player will improve and his value will increase I think position is irrelevant.
