Some of these signings.... I don't get it. How are you getting them so cheap? Ben Arfa £5m? Santon £4-5m? Cabaye £4m?!

Of course, time will tell how these new players do but on the face of it, the actual incoming business you've done has been nothing short of outstanding.

Young players as well.

You make it sound like we know what we are doing

If these deals are anything to go by, you know exactly what you're doing.

You run the risk of upsetting some posters Neil. Ashley and Co are c***s and there's no way past that, all these class signings must be some kind of accident or - ah got it.. they'll sell for more.

I think you'll struggle to find anyone who is unhappy with the signings we've made. It's the gaping holes in the squad and lack of willing to push the club as far as possible that pisses people off.

If we get a striker (and I think we will), not sure where the gaping hole is.

i'll start you off, centre half

Taylor and Colo is a good pairing, and Williamson as a 3rd choice CB is hardly awful.

Could do with a 4th choice like, but it's hardly awful.

I'd buy another fullback first personally.

as cover, Williamson should be ok (provided his injury is not too bad). We've got a steady partnership with Colo and Taylor who as a pairing is probably in the top 8 in the league. We are streets ahead of Arsenal in that department. Next

'Gaping' holes? Please clarify. I can understand the latter part of your statement but some people seem unable to communicate clearly if you think it is just that which pisses people off.

Well we've been extremely lucky to get away with playing Ryan Taylor at left back for four games this season. Starting the season without a single left back on the books is/was a bloody joke.

We've had seven months to work out what to do with the Carroll money and bring in strikers that relegate our Championship-esque strikeforce to the bench or out of the squad altogether and aside from Ba (who I firmly believe like Gosling was signed more because he was available on the cheap rather than with a genuine belief he'd fit what we're trying to do) we're still here fucking around with a day to go. We needed a striker adding going into January, and that was before we sold Carroll. We've hardly any right-wing options that aren't square pegs in round holes, and the same goes for centre back cover.

As I said, our signings on their own look great, but there's an almost complete lack of consideration for the overall picture IMO. It's very misleading to suggest that 'the negative people' are unhappy with our signings.

Nah, you're right. Think I was just looking for an argument.

They're pulling off some great deals but they don't seem to have their eye on the bigger picture at all. :(

The striker deal is key for me. If we get Maiga in I'll have been very happy with this window's signings. If not then it will be pretty inexcusable tbh.

yep, cant grumble too much if we get someone in up front

Only conceded 2 goals (1 in the PL).  :cheesy:

Umm, a gaping hole implies there is no-one (natural) available for the position. We have 3 CB's, sure we should have 4 but it's not a gaping hole.

Openly admit (again) I know nothing of the player, but generally speaking I agree. We can look to build on our great start results-wise and move forwards. I won't re-write my opinion on how we've done things with regards to timing and the numerous farces that we've been through yet again this summer though, nor my opinion that with more ambition we'd be able to move forwards more quickly.

Tell you what, Pardew's trying to bring pace into the side, shame he can't bring some pace to our official site. It makes Kevin Nolan look like Usain f***ing Bolt.

Or you could of just said Usain Bulk.

Barca had none yesterday and won 5-0. :troll:

I said we should be after another CB a while back when we were "interested" in Matuidi. I still think we should, but don't think it's likely.

It probably boils down to semantics and how the word 'gaping' is perceived. For me gaping means that there is no player for that position (who can naturally play there). I agree that we had a gaping hole for our LB position but not anymore. We don't have effective 4th choice cover for CB (3rd choice if Williamson is out long term), that's hardly a gaping hole.

So we've had a gaping hole for less than a week then, somebody hit the panic button!

Seriously though how many centre backs do we expect to have in a squad of an acceptable quality that will be happy to be just squad players? We've got Coloccini, Williamson, Taylor and Kadar which I think is enough, if the club don't think Kadar is good enough then get rid and get in a replacement but until then he should be given a chance.

Not much point of having an academy if we're never going to have faith in them.

The fact that so many other clubs seem to do their business on the last few days of the window suggests that it isn't as easy to tie everything up as neatly as we  would like. A lot of deals depend on other clubs moving players for example. I'm sure Arsenal would prefer to have done their business before now as it's actually cost them points in comparison to us.
