Pata Posted Wednesday at 19:20 Share Posted Wednesday at 19:20 Shocking decision. I was 100% certain it would never be a pen until the ref was called over. It’s a coming together ffs.
nufc123 Posted Wednesday at 19:30 Share Posted Wednesday at 19:30 Looking forward to see what they do next time a keeper come flying out in full speed crashing into a player.
Andy Posted Wednesday at 19:31 Share Posted Wednesday at 19:31 It's absolutely ridiculous that the ref can look at that slow mo and give it. Pope blatantly touches the ball. Them repeating the replay at 1000x speed over and over to make it look more dangerous was scandalous too.
JigsawGoesToPieces Posted Wednesday at 19:34 Share Posted Wednesday at 19:34 Thats a pen like, Pope doesnt touch the ball at all Moronic from Pope he's more of a liability these days
The Butcher Posted Wednesday at 19:35 Share Posted Wednesday at 19:35 WHAT. Nowhere near a pen

In the end they gave the pen for a reckless challenge to get away from having to justify it so that explanation is shite anyway.

The VAR even paused it with his hand on the ball.
David Edgar Posted Wednesday at 19:59 Share Posted Wednesday at 19:59 They gave it at first thinking Pope didn't touch it. When they realised he did, they changed their mind on the type of foul so the touch on the ball didn't matter. Ridiculous.

David Edgar Posted Wednesday at 20:01 Share Posted Wednesday at 20:01 Commentary said they decided it was reckless eventually. Which meant playing the ball didn't matter. It was not reckless.
Norseman Posted Wednesday at 20:49 Share Posted Wednesday at 20:49 Ridiculous decision. Thankfully it didn’t matter in the end.

Ref approaches Pope on the pitch after it’s given, Pope says I got the ball, ref replies ‘you didn’t, I’ve just seen it’. But he did. It’s not easy to see but he did touch the ball. Newcastle Fan Posted Wednesday at 21:08 Share Posted Wednesday at 21:08 Regardless of wither Pope got the ball or not, as a GK he's entitled to go for it, it was a perfectly normal collision in the air, there is zero logic in looking at that and saying it's a foul/penalty, no one on the pitch thought it was but VAR decided lets give it anyway. mattypnufc Posted Thursday at 04:56 Share Posted Thursday at 04:56 Every single game you see similar. Be interesting to see if any are given like that for the rest of the season. I highly doubt it. Useless cunts.
BergenMagpie Posted Thursday at 05:45 Share Posted Thursday at 05:45 Still cant understand how this was given. Who knows what game it would've been if Eze had scored. One of the worst decisions this season and it'll no doubt be swept under the carpet
Stifler Posted Thursday at 05:49 Share Posted Thursday at 05:49 At the weekend VVD will once again go in leading with an elbow into someone’s face/neck and nothing will be given, and likely nothing even checked. Yet last night Pope goes for a ball that he’s entitled to do, and his opposite arm ever so slightly grazes the opposition player. It takes 7 minutes for VAR to somehow reason that it’s a penalty. Wilson Posted Thursday at 05:52 Share Posted Thursday at 05:52 Couldn't see what happened from the other end of the pitch, got home expecting a proper travesty decision the way people were going on...obviously in the minority here but really don't have any issue with it being given. Optimistic Nut Posted Thursday at 05:55 Share Posted Thursday at 05:55 I thought it was a penalty at the time and wish refs would give more penalties like that tbh. If a centre-back did that to a forward I doubt there'd be a debate. Keepers have been over-protected for far too long.

You can see the balls path deviate by about 5-10% after he gets a hand to it.

Optimistic Nut Posted Thursday at 06:27 Share Posted Thursday at 06:27 Keepers get free-kicks for the smallest thing yet can come tearing our jumping with their knees at chest height for a cross for "protection" and it's deemed to be fine. Obviously there has to be a balance but I definitely thought it was a pen yesterday.
