I must say apart from the baffling non card for Rice, he actually refereed the game very well. Didn't fall for any of the Harvertz cheating shite.

No card for Rice. Fuck me.

Gary Neville even said he could have got a red for that last challenge. Nowhere near the ball.

The only negative of the night - I thought he was useless.  Fell for every dive and was far too lenient on Arsenal for the fouls they committed.

Weird performance. He didn't stand for their shite in the most dangerous positions thankfully, but it felt like as soon as it was in the middle of the pitch or Arsenal's half it was a given that he'd give them the benefit of the doubt.

Can someone please explain to me what is the fucking point of mic-ing the ref up to the stadium speakers? What in God's name is that adding to the whole thing? Who needs it? Who in the ground is so clueless that they need assistance understanding that a goal's been disallowed?

Wait a minute. Was he mic'd up?

There was another match recently where they talked this idea up and then I discovered it was just to tell everyone the decision. No one gives a fuck about that part. It's the VAR room discussion beforehand that people are interested in.

A lame attempt to try and convince people VAR is a good thing for the game.  I agree it adds nothing.

It's fucking terrible, just makes referees even more dislikeable.

Leon Osman Former Everton and England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

The assistant referee flagged really early as if he has given the goal. You put the flag across the chest to say a goal but he was still waving it like he had given an offside or throw.

What nonsense

Interesting incident just then. With the long stoppage.

There's nothing in it worthy of punishment I didn't think, and the Birmingham lad is unlucky to be coming off because of it.

But is that an example of an incident that evolves into a red card once it goes through the VAR and freeze frame bullshit malarkey?

Matt Donohue is on the list of refs I hope I never have to see again.

Not a good look for our game when you see what the refs used to let go because "it's a man's game". Just fuck off man.
