Hanshithispantz
How does this surface suit our technical players? Or more to the point, how does the grass that we play on week in week out not?
Dokko
give me something worth responding to instead of your usual drivel and i might. I think he could be playing it a tad over cautious after bringing him back too soon last time. This is a manager with a long history of being over cautious (see every game) He needs games, 10mins here and there, get his confidence and fitness back up. If he starts a game after all this and plays a full half we will know the answer, he should have been playing a couple of matches ago, briefly anyway. Obviously he needs fitness, and when he's ready he will be given minutes. As you said, last time we brought him back too soon. Everyone wants him playing as soon as possible, but I imagine that includes the manager. Criticising him for something we know absolutely nothing about is a waste of breath. TBF my initial post wasn't a dig at Pardew, more at the situation of HBA's fitness, for me its become comical, awaiting the return of the king, for it never to happen. I just like having a laugh. Guest JS
Ameobi up top and Cisse out wide? Dem technical skillz I think Pardews concern with Ben Arfa is that he's had a long lay off and doesn't want to get him back until he's certain - Imagine the stick Pardew would get if he fielded an unfit player and he did his hamstring within 15mins? It's a dilemma and a bit of a risk but I honestly think he'll make the bench and come on in the second half - probably for 10mins like

Mole_Toonfan
Hatem Ben Arfa is relieved that Newcastle have shown ambition in the transfer market - and declared himself ready to attack the Europa League. The France winger stunned the club in early January by hinting he may have to quit in the summer if they did not bolster a struggling squad with big names. Two weeks later, the Geordies landed five new signings from the French top flight, including internationals Mathieu Debuchy, Moussa Sissoko and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa. Ben Arfa is now fit after 10 weeks out with a "strange" hamstring injury, and he has revealed the tough road back to fitness has made him relish the prospect of a strong finish to the season. He wants to lead Newcastle to a European final - starting by overcoming rich Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala in a last-16 tie that begins with Thursday's first leg here in Moscow - and get back into the France side after making up with boss Didier Deschamps. But the biggest boost for Newcastle is knowing their star man, who turns 26 on Thursday, has been encouraged by the January business dealings and regards the squad as stronger than ever. He said: "I am very happy now. They are very good players and they will really strengthen our team. I was in France when the players were signing. I was pleased because they are good players not just because they a French. "For instance, Moussa Sissoko is here and he is a giant. I know him from the national team. A lot of big clubs wanted him and he came to Newcastle. "We have a stronger team now than we had before January. It's good because last season we did very well and we finished fifth but the squad was not very big. "Now, with the players coming in, it is even stronger and we can do something similar again. This season maybe we can go on a good run and get to the top 10, of course. "The ambition is to come back very strong and finish the season strong. I want to be at my best until the end of the season and that is my ambition at the moment. "My first ambition is to win against Anzhi." The Russians have invested £300million in just two years on the likes of ex-Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o, and have yet to concede, let alone lose, at home in Europe this season, spelling out the size of the task facing Alan Pardew's men. On the club's luxury flight to Moscow, Ben Arfa explained his fight back to fitness. He was initially crocked in November and returned on December 10, but the haling process had created scar tissue. He said: "The strange thing was even though I was carrying that injury I managed to play and score against Fulham. It was a great goal, too. I can't believe how I did it on one leg! "Maybe I played too early against Fulham. "It was not very bad. It was strange because on the scan we saw something, but me, I felt nothing. There was no pain, but on the scan we saw blood. "I could run and I could play, which was strange. "I was very happy the club let me recover in Paris at Clairefontaine. The first time I had a bad injury, when my leg was broken, I was there and they know everything about me. I have always had a good recovery there. "It is more solid and strong, and it won't bother me again." Ben Arfa was "amazed" to discover Newcastle have not won a trophy for 44 years. "It is a surprise," he said. "Newcastle's a great team, a big stadium, and lots of fans an ether are one of the big clubs in England. For the fans, football is their life - 44 years... it is amazing. "It would be great to be part of making history and, as a team, to become the ones who ended the gap after 44 years." Anzhi are one of the competition's favourites, and Ben Arfa added: "I know Eto'o. I also know (ex-Chelsea and Arsenal midfielder) Lassana Diarra from the national team. "They are a good team with very good players. They are targeting this competition and next year want to be in the Champions League. They have great ambition. "It will be a very hard game... because it is very cold there! "But I am looking forward to playing. I am very happy to be back on the pitch. It has been a long time not playing, 10 weeks is difficult for any player to deal with. "I feel good and I have worked hard to get my fitness back. I will give everything I have to give and we will see how it goes."
