The other worrying thing about this is the knock-on effects it may have on the other players. Cisse seems like quite a happy-go-lucky, friendly guy to me and those who've met him say the same. Generally he plays the game with a smile on his face. I can't imagine him being prevented from going on a pre-season training and team-building trip with the rest of the squad is something that the rest of them feel too cracking about, particularly considering he's our number one striker.

Was thinking this earlier, not exactly a great start to the trip all this.

just standard nufc pre season.

Makes me laugh so many people saying "he's picking and choosing what he wants from Islam"

Err so? That's what religion is. The Christians on our team don't murder children that disrespect their parents (as far as I know) so they're picking and choosing what they want from the Bible too.

I just hope it gets sorted out so that Cisse is happy to play for us.  Any other result is unsatisfactory. I'll always back him ahead of our loyalty to a bunch of scumbags like Wonga.

Generally he plays the game with a smile on his face. I can't imagine him being precluded from a pre-season training and team-building trip with the rest of the entire playing squad is something that they feel too cracking about, particularly considering he's our number one striker.

I wouldn't assume that Cisse has the support of the other players. The other Muslim players aren't raising the same objection, and I would imagine a large part of the squad feel that Cisse is being hypocritical, for the same reasons as several on here.

I understand the suspicion, and that if all true he has obviously decided normal banks and personal gambling are fine but wonga aren't, but to me this is a problem that shouldn't be insurmountable through man management. If he just wants to leave he obviously should put int eh transfer request and we should ignore it.

I can't dislike him though, amazing goals, if he can regain that form it'll be amazing. People seem so quick to condemn, even if you think he's being an idiot not the first great footballer to be an idiot, this calls for man management not ditching.

Is that scenario any better?

What an awful comparison.

Oh no it's not.

A better comparison would be our players refusing to play on Sundays because it's their day of rest.

I think Cisse wearing a non-sponsored/charity sponsored shirt would only increase their exposure. Every time we play people who don't know are going to be questioning why he is wearing a different shirt etc..

What would stop all the other players deciding they wanted a charity sponsor or non-sponsored shirt too? You can't have one rule for one and not the rest.

That's the thing. I'm sure many would rather advertise a chosen charity than Wonga!

Now how is that better than murdering children for disrespect ?, Nut, you gone too far with this Sunday nonsense.

it would be if they made a point of protesting about the sponsorship by a child kiilling company while not being bothered about another one because they killed fewer children directly.

Well if most of the squad are generally understanding of the Club's stance, morale and unity won't be affected as much.

Obviously the players know Cisse better than any of us on here. I just think you're making an assumption about their attitudes to the overall situation.

Not really. It's all in there and the book makes no distinction between what is more necessary under God's Law than anything else.

Indeed, that's what most religious people do, but Cisse's being so blatantly inconsistent that I'm sceptical. Sponsor changes from company that charges interest to company that charges more interest seems a strange time to stage a boycott. I'd back Cisse over Wonga but I'm sceptical it really is Cisse v Wonga.

I also don't think religion should be grounds for special treatment. If they allow others to not wear it cos they consider them exploitative, then great.

Have to say, it's really weird that people are jumping to the conclusion that he has any other agenda than just not wanting to wear the shirt.

just seems a lame thing to take a stand on given he's been ok with it in the past.

I think we need to realise that Wonga are a lot worse than Virgin Money.

I'm sorry but they are not and I agree with Madras that Barclays are even worse.

he 's just using this as an excuse to engineer a move.

Or he disagrees with your assessment of who is worse. Maybe he is trying to engineer a move but i don't think it's all that mad to suggest he thinks normal banks and personally gambling is one thing and payday loan companies are more extreme

Of course this is football and silly to trust things at first glance, maybe he is trying to engineer a move, seems a strange way to go about it, and the club's reaction has been poor imo.

All the club can do is perhaps agree a deal with Wonga whereby Cisse can play without the sponsor on his kits.

Wonga will be loving this the amount of free publicity they've had.

I am sure in the end that is what will happen.

wonga are our new sponsors, paying £8 million a year to do so, there is no way on earth they will allow a player not to wear there logo. It is a kick in the teeth for their company
