And personally I don't think this goal return was bad considering he spent a while on the wing and the rest of the season on his own up front with the rest of the team scared to leave our own defensive third. United jetted out for their pre-season trip to Braga last night without their No 9. The Magpies striker had his bag packed for the trip to Portugal before being notified he would be unable to travel – unless he wore Wonga-branded training gear and the company’s logo during matches. Cisse, who is a devout Muslim, feels that wearing a shirt sponsored by the internet finance company would be against his religious and personal beliefs. The striker wore Virgin Money on his shirt when he first signed for the Magpies, but it’s believed Cisse has taken a very different view of the new sponsors. A close friend of Cisse told the Chronicle the striker felt Wonga were exploiting poor people with high interest rates. It’s believed Cisse does not want to quit the Magpies. However, he may have no choice but to leave if Wonga and United cannot meet his request to wear unbranded training kit and match-day gear. Cisse’s friend insisted the United star was not attempting to engineer a move. It’s understood that he does not want to leave Newcastle. Cisse friend’s said: “Papiss wanted to go to Portugal. His bag was packed and he was ready to leave. “Papiss loves the club, the fans and the city. He just wants the situation resolved. “He simply feels that this is against his religion.” It’s understood that part of Wonga’s agreement with Newcastle is that every player must wear the logo on their kit. When Cisse refused to wear the kit, he was told to report instead to the club’s Benton base to train on his own with one of the fitness coaches. Cisse had hoped to wear an unbranded shirt or a Toon top with a charity logo. He will now wear unbranded kit during his fitness training while United are in Portugal. It has also emerged that a meeting with the PFA has not resulted in a resolution. Both Wonga and United declined to comment last night. I wish we weren't associated with Wonga, we should have got a more credible sponsor, but we are where we are so we have to accept Cisse needs to move on asap so replacements can be brought in. Aye, we do need to get away from the negativity Wonga is bringing us and focus on builing a better team. Thx for stating the excuse... When Ba was here how much was he really on the wing? Remember him and Ba changing the positions under the game, and also both playing up front. Second part of the season he was playing up front, he missed some really good chances which a 5 yro could have scored from. His crazy goals are to random, and he wasted to many opportunities imho by trying trick-shots and stuff like that. We cant afford the luxury of having a striker like that, even though I love his goals, I dont buy into the "winger" excuse, nor the one that he was up by his own and didn't get any help from his teammates.
