Bit of a worry when you can't really argue that Shola was kept on ahead of him. Doesn't look to have any match sharpness and awareness at all.

In the modern game a striker who can only finish chances is simply not very good

Especially if there are no crosses coming in. I can barely recall one from out wide that a striker could have attacked.

Only Debuchy provided a wide, crossing outlet. Absolutely criminal considering we started 2 strikers, one of whom is a 'big lad'.

Massively over hyped on here, penny finally dropping though. Shame it takes people so fucking long mind.

If people think some other strikers going to come in and start banging in goals without any service they are in for a rude awakening when he's dropped. Remy might be able to pull goals out of thin air, he's a canny dribbler, but a new striker isn't going to magically transform Pardew's turgid football into slick passing heaven.

Gerd Muller at his peak would have struggled for goals in this set-up.

still rate him highly, he is world class in the box - but without any service he can´t do it on his own. hopefully remy will be able to connect cisse/attack with our midfield.

Think people is too hard on cisse. We all know he is a limited forward...when the service is there he is lethal in the box - without it average!

He is not our problem imo.

Yep. Don't think he's massively over-hyped like. Think he's rightly called a good finisher who will more often than not get a goal if you give him a few chances (albeit he did have a poor season last time out). Not forgetting that if you keep feeding him and get his confidence up he can and will score from just about anywhere.

Ameobi starting for us is the biggest joke ever...says everything about the people running this club.

Cisse came off coz he was injured...not because ameobi was playing better than him imo.

Totally agree. Some people don't seem to grasp that it's not even solely about service, it's also about things like getting men in the box to create space for a striker. We get fewer men into the box regularly than any top flight team I've seen in years. Your service to the striker could be fantastic but if he's marked by the entire back four, he's unlikely to be able to get near it, never mind put it away.

Well Gouf nearly and should have scored and Bent did score by getting in good positions. Cisse may need some additional servicr but should at least be making moves to get in them himself.

Also he should be working harder to hold up the ball and bring his team mates in to play.

2 examples yesterday were both with Sissoko who passed to him on the half way line indicated to Cisse to lay on a reverse pass which he could run on to and what does Cisse do, he passed it back to Sissoko who was a yard away from him and the ball bounced off his shins and to the opposition.

The second was again Sissoko who burst forward and looked to Cisse who was running in the right hand channel on the way to the 18 yard box. Sissoko went to pass it to bim and he decides to dart along the 18 yard box from right to left and ball went out of play for a goal kick.

He has been poor for two games in a row.

Yeah, watching Liverpool yesterday it was making me sick watching them bomb forward in 3's and 4's and knowing when I watched us everyone would be stood around wondering what to do. It's clear as day there is no work done by the coaching team on movement. Not forward movement anyway.

I'm not saying he played well, I wasn't there so I don't know. I'm just saying that a new striker isn't going to make the difference some people think, unless he's 6'8" and he can win some headers. Even then you need supporting runners which doesn't happen in a Pardew team.

Cisse is a victim of the lack of cohesion and purpose in our attacking play. He's been poor but he hasn't been helped by our ramshacke approach. He doesn't get many chances anymore. Most strikers need 3/4 chances a game to score.
