it's like some christians are ok with gay marriage, some aren't. in this case though the stance taken by one is easily shot at.

 

edit, I agree with the missing bit of your post about it possibly looking like an excuse to get out (like n'zogbia and insomniagate). there were rumours a little while back when it kicked off about it not really being him but pressure exerted on his family back in senegal, was this ever chacked out ?

So he is contractually obligated to wear the sponsor's logo?  Surely he is now in breach of contract and the club shouldn't be paying him.  A later decision to allow him to play without it should see his wage lowered, not raised.

He's using this Wonga sponsorship as an excuse to leave. He was happy to wear the Virgin shirt last season and he's happy to play in the Barclays Premier League and wear their logo on his sleeve and last time I checked they were both in the business of lending money with interest repayable on it.

Player acting a bit dumb (hypocritical yes but at least imo a slightly worthy cause, Wonga are a tacky company that prey on the vulnerable) is nothing new in the world of football, and essentially it looks like we're going to lose Cisse due to a sponsor logo row. I don't think it's reasonable to ever be in this position.

 

I know Bent can score goals, but he's still just a f***ing poacher who isn't good enough for aston f***ing villa. Cisse may not be much more varied is his game but I'd like to see Bent try that Chelsea goal (or even Cisse's against Southampton this last season, or that juggle to the right leg against Stoke was it?), and for one Bent is a grumpy run of the mill premier league ego, I have remained deeply fond of Cisse even through his season long rough patch, that run into the crowd when he scored late on versus Fulham was magic.

 

Bent is no upgrade, at best he is the same, he does not improve us, and as we learned last season we have to improve to stand still in the league. We should not be losing a striker who can be as brilliant as he was initially over a f***ing row about sponsors. The one thing I still kinda thought Pardew was ok at was man-management, keeping players on side, this is what we should be doing. Not f***ing ditching him for someone who elicits a shrug and well he'll at least score goals. We should be aiming higher but we're not and we never will be while we are owned by Ashley.

 

May seem a bit longwinded, I think we can survive Cisse leaving alright if we sign Bent and someone better. (Ok much to ask for but we do need a more all round striker). We also need widemen and a Cabaye replacement if he's off. While Ashley is in charge 'this'll do' will be the philosophy for ever more. This seems pretty much symbolic of how much of a shambles our club is run by.

Cissé is as good as gone. The deal with Wonga was signed in October 2012 so he's know since then that they would be our sponsor. He should hand a transfer request in as there is no way he can get out of wearing the club sponsor on his shirt.

 

If his reasoning for not wanting to wear the Wonga sponsored shirt are "religious grounds" then we know that he is a massive hypocrite. I wonder what a Muslim cleric's views would be on a Muslim going to casinos, smoking with a Hookah pipe, having 'relations' outside of marriage with a non-Muslim, wearing clothing sponsored by money lenders (Northern Rock, Virgin Money & Barclays), working in a place where alcohol is sold and advertised and where gambling is promoted (St James Park), etc.

So, Cisse says ‘I object’ and may be given permission to wear a charity shirt.

 

Tiote now feels bad and goes the same way. Followed by Haidara, Ben Arfa and goodness knows how many more, because now it’s not religious. It’s principle – and that’s much more serious.

 

So there’s no reason why Taylor, Colo, Jonas, Krul and the rest should not join in, because lets face it, they would be pretty embarrassed by now, appearing to condone high interest loans.

 

Who is going to sponsor a club’s shirts if the players can just boycott them as they wish, just because they ‘disagree’ with their business practices?

 

For example a player decides that they will not play for a team sponsored by Samsung, because they ‘stole’ a “gesture” from Apple, or Etihad because of UAE human rights issues. Or the plethora of gambling sponsors.

 

Where does it all end?

 

Long and slippery slope guys. Take a look at the number of sponsors that we could take offence to. Open season.

 

If Cisse refuses to wear the Wonga he is quite simply in breach of contract. He either walks or is sacked. And Ashley – regardless of what you may think of him, cannot allow any player to dictate these terms. It’s not about religion now.

 

Shirt sponsorship is a huge money earner (just look at Etihad) and anyone who rocks that particular boat should be turfed overboard. Non- negotiable.

 

Yes – it’s a shame that Mary Poppins didn’t offer to sponsor us, but one minute we are complaining about no money being spent, the next we’re complaining about where it’s coming from.

 

For goodness sake, at which point do we actually take responsibility for our actions and stop blaming the likes of Wonga?

 

We are adults. We know the terms. We make the decisions.

 

Whether it’s high interest loans, casinos, cigarettes or booze, we have to accept the responsibility.

 

Just out of interest – I’ve been plugging away at this one for weeks – Northern Rock and then Virgin Money both charge interest on their products, but nobody objected to that.

 

OK – so here’s the big one.

 

Where do you draw the line?

 

Surely refusing to wear the shirt but continuing to accept the money is major league hypocrisy? (or perhaps that should be Premiere League Hypocrisy?)

 

Are we saying that I’m happy to take the money, as long as I don’t have to wear the shirt, so please just keep giving me the fifty grand a week, because I quite like that part of the deal?

 

If this really is a matter of principle based purely on the concept of interest (which we have already challenged) then I would assume that when he leaves Cisse will not go to another team in the BARCLAYS Premier League, because as far as I can tell, those buggers are still charging me interest on my mortgage.

 

And who would want to be part of that?

thing is the cliche used about strikers is that the best take their chances when they come along, last season he didn't. (crikey, reading at home in particular which seemed like a turning point we could/should have been at least 3, hat trick for cisse, by half time)
