sunderland

Just stopped off at a chip shop in a village which is a real B&W stronghold and said shop even had an NUFC poster behind the counter. Imagine my shock/surprise to see "cheesy chips" on the menu!

Now I wouldn't normally be so arrogant to advise macums how to do things, but I really would have thought they'd have tried to protect that most Wearside of delicacies along the same lines as producers in say....Champagne, Parma or Wensleydale have done.

If they do seek to protect their famous fayre then perhaps chippies outside of Sunderland could get around this by refering to the offering as "chips with cheese" or even "pomme frites avec fromage" in more pretentious establishments.

All rivalries aside I do think it's a bit of a shame that somewhere so close to us is dying on its arse. As far as I can see it's only getting worse, it really doesn't have anything going for it at all.

Middlesbrough, Darlington, they are just as bad.

There are many sunderlands all over the UK.

We are lucky really.

Never found Darlo too bad but apart from that agree wholeheartedly, especially with the last bit.

I did suspect, he is a Norwegian who seems to know far too much about Newcastle (butchers that shut down 15 years ago etc..) to be a Norwegian, looks like the sad twat goes about forums stealing others posts to post off as his own for some reason.

It has some lovely areas Darlington and some of the houses are huge with huge streets but in general its still dumpy. I'm torn between where is worse, sunderland or Boro. I work a lot in Boro and the number of people who walk about picking up tab dumps or drinking from cans early in the morning is staggering, such a hard up downtrodden place. The people look ill as well.

Same as Whitehaven, what should be a lovely area, is awful.

I work all over the country mind so see and get to know all these bad places. Stoke and Derby are grim, as is Milton Keynes, Luton, Stevenage.

I'm biased like but we live in a beautiful city, with lots going for it, sadly some of the populace let it down and its growing. There is a very thuggy/charver element to Newcastle and its getting worse.

Saw on SSN O'Neill AGAIN telling the press that their struggles this season aren't unexpected. It's about the fourth or fifth time I've seen him saying this. If I was a Sunderland fan (or their chairman/owner) I'd be far more concerned about a manager who spent £22m in the summer expecting to be in the relegation zone nearly halfway through the season than any of their shitty performances and results.

Gravesend is probably the worst place I've ever been to like.

Worst place for me thinking about it is probably sunderland and I'm not just saying that because I'm a Geordie. Everything about it, the people, the city itself, is fucking dismal and if you are a Geordie visiting the place, expect nothing but grief. I actually despair because at the end of the day, its a part of my country and to see an area with such a massive population so downtrodden and fucked up is sad indeed. Its not in isolation mind, there are literally hundreds of sunderland's all over the UK, places so bleak its depressing. Middlesbrough is the same, in fact many parts of the North east are like that.
