No - Ricardo's "predictions" assume current league positions in all countries, and also that the team with the higher seeding will win any match. Plainly this is not the case (otherwise life would be pretty boring), but as a feel for what a round is likely to be like it is a good indicator.

By this time next week the list of participants will be much, much clearer (and we'' know which competition Newcastle set out in).

A fantastic season and yeah we haven't got in the CL but we gave it a good go and we have shown that we are capable of competing for those places, maybe we will have better luck next year. Anyway we continue our love affair with the Europa League.

To confirm, #NUFC enter next season's Europa League at final play-off stage. Games scheduled for August 23 and 30. Win that and into groups.

There will be 62 teams in the fourth qualifying round (/playoff round) of the Europa League.

Each team has a coefficient based on that club's record in UEFA competitions over the previous 5 seasons (i.e. nil for NUFC) plus an allowance based on the performance of all clubs from its country over the same period.

The clubs with the top 31 coefficients will be seeded for the draw, and will play teams from the bottom 31. Coefficients are a guide, but a higher coefficient doesn't guarantee truly having a stronger team. Nevertheless, being seeded is much more likely to give a winnable tie than being unseeded.

18 teams will enter for the first time at this stage, including Newcastle. 29 will be winners from the third qualifying round of the competition, and the other 15 will be losers from the third round of the Champions' League.

Currently Newcastle could be as high as 9th of the 62 teams, or as low as 42nd, so results in the earlier rounds of both competitions will determine whether or not a seeded position is achieved. Realistically somewhere between 20th and 36th seems likely (9th would involve Liverpool, Marseille, Twente, etc all being eliminated in the third round - which seems unlikely).

I just hope we don't fuck it up and miss out on the groups. 1 million we get too if we get the groups, every thing counts.
