Remember when we signed Beye? It was a lot more ridiculous than this.

Didn't he sign a new contract at Marseille? Then one of his mates broke his leg so decided careers are too short so he wanted to come here after all?

Beye was a massive saga. The deal seemed stone cold dead and was resurrected near the end of the window. Iirc the club announced him and Faye as having signed about 3 hours after the deadline shut.

Something like he wanted to come, then Marsielle wouldn't sell, then they would, then they wouldn't for what we offered, then he complained about not getting a move, then he decided he wanted to stay, then about a month later decided he wanted to come and did.

I've made all of that up, but it was something like that.

"We urge all fans to make a small contribution towards the increased €2m.  As a reward we will send you a free titanic Sports Direct mug, which doesn't fit through your letterbox, so you will have to collect when you're at work."

So there's no point watching your letterbox.

He ain't coming, AP to comment on how good Simpsons been in training blah blah f***ing blah

Simply not good enough this window

I don't think this saga's over but I agree with your last point, you just can't stand still in this league, and we are doing just that right now, with no real glimmer of hope that that will change. They might still pull a rabbit out of the hat, they have a number of times before but not looking good right now.

"There is no denying we mad a bid for the lad, and by all accounts he wanted to come here. He is someone we thought could have added to the quality that we already have here at the club. The difference this year to the last is that we are in no dire need for reconstruction. While missing out on him (Debuchy) is a disspointment to us and the fans, we have more than enough quality to see us through with Danny, Ryan and Tavs. This time of year is tough on fans but we hope to have some more positive news on other targets soon."

It'll be something along the lines of we've made what we believe is a reasonable offer, we rate him, and it'll be up to the chairman whether or not we make an improved offer.

Are we a victim of our own success in the transfer market in Europe, in the last couple of years or so we have signed some good players for relatively low fees clubs are on their guard now.
