The article says,  "A delegation from the Premier League Club was in Amsterdam and made an increased offer (reportedly of over eight million euros excluding bonuses) for Vurnon Anita (23)".

The tone of the article sounds as if Ajax are resigned to losing him because they dont want a repeat of the van der wiel situation. A double raid could be on the cards here.

It sounds like his best position is by far defensive midfielder and he is very inconsistent and wasted at left back.  We have an already good central midfield plus Bigi, Abeid and Gosling who are going to be pushing for starts, how can we possibly keep them all happy and develop them?

That's my worry too. People say he is versatile and can play left and right back. In fact he's hardly ever played RB and was nothing special at LB when he first broke in the team. It's a big outlay for our most well stocked position.

We need another quality senior/first-team ready midfielder imo. Gosling, Bigi & Abeid are the future and will be good alongside Cabaye or Tiote, but if anything happens to one of them, we're an injury/suspension away from relying 2 of them together which might be too early in the Premier League.

Gosling is at a time in his career where he desperately needs a full season under his belt imo. I don't think he is as bad as some but he needs a proper chance to prove how good or bad he is and he won't get that here.

I would sign a right back, centre back and forward before a midfielder but Anita would be very useful and allow Gosling the loan he really needs.

Ideally we need 4 signings to complete the squad for the season... A fullback, Centre-mid, Striker and a centre- half. Pardews been banging on anbout 3 signings. So Im assuming that we are no longer pursuing a centre-half.

De Telegraaf -

AMSTERDAM - Newcastle United is in charge of Ajax in a difficult position. A delegation from the Premier League Club was in Amsterdam and made an increased offer (reportedly of over eight million euros excluding bonuses) on Vurnon Anita (23).

The amount brings the Amsterdam - right before the competition starts against AZ - in an almost impossible dilemma. Anita proved invaluable last season and Ajax do not want to lose. The midfielder himself has set his sights on a transfer, however, put the board and asked to cooperate.

So by financial director Jeroen Slop and the technical heart of the assessment can be made or Anita ever greater profit than the nine or ten million who are expected to be dragged out.

Gregory van der Wiel

The Ajax is just two years under contract and Gregory van der Wiel serves as a shining example. The right back was after the World Cup in 2010 (up) eighteen million sold to Bayern Munich and Valencia offered last winter still total more than nine million. If Ajax now collects five million euros for him, is that many, because Van der Wiel is only a year under contract.

Problem is that Anita Ajax must find a replacement and the 'footballing defensive midfielders' simply scarce.

Especially with the same chunk of experience as the Dutch Antilles in 2005 at the age of sixteen made his debut in Ajax 1 and since then has played 108 league matches.

I agree it's a make or break season for Gosling. The lady's been unlucky with injuries but with Guthrie gone he might get his chance for more involvement.
