Jack Colback would look alright alongside Cabaye, Ben Arfa and Sissoko too.

He doesn't add much himself does he? Applies to Anita and Colback to different degrees.

Except Colback isn't as good at tackling is 200% left footed and always liable to make a ridiculous error. Anita offers more in every aspect of his play. Albeit not much more.

Colback has a better goal scoring record.

I think they're both out of their depth as Premier League footballers. They prove that week in week out.

Both of them look crap playing together. Both of them would probably look better alongside a more competent or suitable partner.

Individually I rate Anita higher, but there's no point pretending either of them are particularly good.

We shouldn't use Colback's s***ness as a way of praising Anita. Just forget about Colback for a moment and say what the f*** it is that Anita brings. Detest the word "tidy" to sum up a positive for a central midfielder.  You need so much more than that.

Fair play with that. Neither would be in a good 11 in the Premier but Anita is still the better out of the 3 I mentioned, for me.

He's a good squad player to have for a 7-12th place team. We just don't have the players or the players with the right attitude to keep him out the first 11.

Completely went to s*** once Anita was injured, but aye let's hope he stays out..  :jesuswept:

Ah yes, because we have been 70s Brazil when he has played. Absolute madness. We have been shit with him and shit without him, for the simple reason he is a total non entity.

Aye Anita was also on the pitch for the first ten minutes when West Brom were absolutely taking the piss and could have scored two or three

Reads the game very well, to the point you rarely have to see him off his feet diving into tackles because he's already there. Presses the opposition very well and doesn't just run around after the ball. And the tidiness you detest is a job which someone has to do to tick over the play from the back and he's good at it.

You might want to forget about Colback but you just can't. A lot of the time Anita is actually looking to cover out for his shitness or lack of positional sense. Tiote isn't intelligent enough on the football pitch to look after Colback. Be very surprised if that doesn't become glaringly obvious in the upcoming games if those two are selected which they most likely will be.

This is what Colback apologists conveniently ignore. Anita isn't good enough but at least he can do one job and that is press the ball and win it. Colback doesn't do anything well. He's a pointless player taking up a valuable space in midfield.

He doesn't read the game very well as he is constantly chasing shadows, same with positioning, we are constantly overrun. I am never going to praise someone for being tidy, as all footballers should be able to pass a ball 5 yards, it's nothing to praise about. He is crap, slightly less crap than Colback but he doesn't  do anything very well like you state. I know how easily pleased you get at the turgid football we dish out, you just lap that shit up, but he needs replaced as well as Colback.

You clearly are only following the ball when watching the match if you don't think he reads the game well. When he's fit, just count the amount of times he's got to cover for Colback by switching to another player or close a gap because Colback is away off into no mans land. It can't be easy trying to do his own job whilst luck after the mackem cunt beside him. It's not picked up as well on TV, but it's an eye opener when in the ground.

He's hopeless man. Been here ages and you can count on one hand the amount of good games he's had in that time. Total non entity of a player. Doesn't score goals, doesn't create goals, not a great tackler and more often than not you struggle to realise he's actually on the pitch which should never be the case for a player who plays in such a prominent position. We need a completely new central midfield and we need it quickly otherwise we are down.

You're obvious not intelligent enough to appreciate him!

Seriously though "total non entity of a player" sums him up. Sometimes when people say he's had a good game I'm totally baffled because he seems to be  as ineffective in pretty much every game.

That's just not true, he has had good games, more than a handful

He needs upgrading BUT he is not a complete liability like Jack Colback

If you think he is ineffective in pretty much every game then aye I would question your intelligence

I think that's what the inflated opinion of Anita on here comes down to. Failure to appreciate Anita could be seen as approving of the dreaded Colback! In truth both are rubbish. Both have contributed the same amount to the team (very little).

De Jong and Anita get unfair stick when it comes to their ability to play football. Aye, they might not be at their best for us but if you're not used correctly and given confidence to play your best football, it's an uphill difficult task. Anita was awfully treated by Pardew, play well then dropped, play poorly and heavily criticised, long periods on the bench or always first off etc. Horrible. McClaren has shown more faith and Anita has improved for it but he shouldn't be in a two man midfield, especially not beside Colback.

Our fans are so quick to slag you off if you're not physically strong enough or quick enough for the best league in the world. It's bullshit tbh and it's a reason why England are dreadful at the big tournaments because we don't produce enough players with technical ability, which Anita and De Jong are naturals at. I couldn't question their technical ability and reading of the game. I'd take that over the the British bulldog spirit any day of the week.

One of the worst midfield performances this season was against Leicester when Tiote went off and Gini moved inside alongside Anita. It was horrific. Anita looks slightly less shit when someone is there wiping his arse. Take that away and he is like a rabbit caught in headlights. We need one good player in there to do the job of Anita and Colback, you can't count on either of them to step up and take control.

Neither Anita nor De Jong (in his present state) would get near the English squad no matter what kind of game you want to play

IMO it's the ex-Ajax "Dutch international" that has given people the idea that he's good. Hollow words like "technical" are used to describe his playing style. I think that means "good first touch, can pass ball crisply 6 yards" that's what he's good at. He's as "technical" as Jermaine Jenas and is even less likely to impact a game.

If you don't appreciate Anita, you must love Cattermole or something. That's almost literally what Brett is saying. I think some of it is Pardew hate as well.

I'm not saying they would given their current form. Their natural ability is what we lack in abundance over here though. It's the myth around the PL that is the problem.

Ozil's the best recent example. How much criticism he came in for. Questions around his physicality, his pace, his stamina, his athleticism. Now they're saying he's the best player in the league

Unbelievable will know better than me like but I think I remember reading or hearing at the time Cruyff got back involved at Ajax that the thing he was unhappy about was that Ajax were bringing through players with good technical ability but there was nothing special about any of them. They all had a very good touch and could keep possession but there was no real substance to them or any real creativity like Bergkamp, Seedorf etc.

This is what I think of Anita, he's a decent player technically, good at passing it short but there just isn't anything to him. He can't play a long pass, he keeps it safe, he can't get up and down the pitch, he presses alright but you never really expect him to win the ball high up the pitch
