Stuy_O
The technical standard is far superior. I'll give you that, but pace and competitiveness in terms of top teams aren't much better than the SPL. PSV, Ajax, Feyenoord, Twente, Heerenveen & Vitesse are all a lot better than anything below Celtic imo. The SPL really is shockingly poor.
merlin
Sometimes it just doesn't work out for you..... there's been some pretty fantastic players that have failed to perform here and you can say the same for Spain, Italy and Germany etc etc.... players are human after all and sometimes it just doesn't work out. Not saying that's the case for De Jong but it could be and if we wanted him before then we must have seen something which interested us. I doubt that has changed despite his struggles in Germany. Jon Dahl Tommasson, Patrick Kluivert, Michael Owen. Having said that mind the Dutch league is not much better than the SPL. All true, but of the 3 you mention, Tomasson was unlucky because he was shoved up as a CF when Shearer got injured and before that, he had looked great alongside Shearer in the pre-season games...was never a CF...went on to prove himself a top player at AC Milan ; Kluivert was on his last decent pay day and wasn't really bothered - a shadow of the player in his earlier years and, allegedly, had substance problems..; Owen was like Kewell, never the same player after a bad injury at Liverpool. He did OK at Real but I don't think he really had his heart in the move to us although he may have been more effective under KK had Keegan not fallen out with Ashley because KK had got him playing well in a more withdrawn role. All 3 players were a disappointment here for different reasons and we can add Viduka to that list because we signed him too late in his career...was a beast at Leeds. TRon
Looks a decent finisher from the YT clips. He doesn't seem to be a target man though, despite being a big lad.

You can't really tell if somebody is a good finisher from YouTube clips as they generally only show the chances they score not the ones they miss. Granted, but you can still get an idea just from the way they do it. Anyone can blast one in, but it's usually the natural finishers who beat the keeper through guile and know where to find the gaps. Mole_Toonfan
I don't think we need a target man as such as we don't hoof it that much. Just someone like Lewandowski ( in terms of size and build) would do. I think it's more important to get someone who is good in the air considering how often our crosses go to nothing. Agreed we need someone who can drop deep and link play if we are going 2 up front.
Skeletor
Need to get this guy in ASAP. Not the most exciting of signings but A) Keeps Shola out of the team B) Allows Remy to go back to the left where he was lethal earlier in the season C) He will score some goals unlike any one who plays central striker for us. Skirge
Luuk de Jong issues 'come and get me' plea to Newcastle United Luuk de Jong has admitted that he is open to joining Newcastle United and has issued a 'come and get me' plea Luuk de Jong has admitted that he is open to joining Newcastle United and has issued a “come and get me” plea. And he says he has already “imagined” signing for the Magpies during the January window. Newcastle will look to bounce back from their disappointment against Manchester City by turning attentions back to the transfer market today. The Holland international played 45 minutes for Borussia Monchengladbach over the weekend in a 1-1 friendly draw with Besiktas in the German side’s winter tour of Turkey. Newcastle are still discussing a loan fee for the 23-year-old former FC Twente man and are eager to make a transfer breakthrough in this window. Having turned down a £9million bid for Papiss Cisse from an unamed Qatar club, United won’t allow the number 9 to leave until they have snapped up a new centre-forward – despite the Senegal star expressing his disappointment over his own lack of game time this season. Gladbach have actually encouraged Newcastle to make De Jong’s signing a permanent move but Newcastle want to run the rule over the striker in the second half of the campaign first. When asked about Newcastle’s interest, De Jong said over the weekend: “I can imagine going. “My coach will change things in the second half but not that much.” De Jong was referring to his own lack of opportunities after totalling just 85 minutes so far this season. Speaking of Borussia coach Lucien Favre’s decision to restrict and minimise his appearances, he said: “I want to play longer than three to five minutes. It’s no fun. “The coach does not give me the feeling that he continues he will build firmly around me. “He does not talk much with me. It was a first half (of the season) to forget.” United are also interested in Montpellier’s attacking midfielder Rémy Cabella and want a younger defender and a new goalkeeper that will bolster their squad. Gladbach have also actively encouarged Newcastle to put in a cash bid for De Jong, rather than talk of a loan so far. Their director of sport Max Eberl said: “If we receive an offer for a player, we’ll consider it, of course. “In Luuk de Jong we have a player who didn’t play that often in the first half of the campaign. “I can understand him being unhappy. We keep getting enquiries about him – but there have been no concrete offers. “We don’t intend to give matters like this one our attention until something concrete happens.” United could sell Jonas Gutierrez to Norwich City today after the winger announced on Twitter over the weekend that he was ready to depart. http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/luuk-de-jong-issues-come-6500035

LRD
He doesn't even have to be a 1 goal in 2 scorer. As long as he can balance our tactics better by holding up the ball and freeing the likes of Remy to inflict damage, he would have done well.
