Pretty happy with the renaissance of the CONMEBOL "second string" these past years. There was a point in the early-to-mid 2000s when it looked that there was nothing past Argentina/Brazil, but it's nicely competitive nowadays with a lot of great teams to watch that could do well in the real thing.

Aye, best thing of it all is that there is not a single minnow in there. Even a team without much tradition like Venezuela has been pretty decent these past years, so every game is nicely competitive and the group in itself has a lot of battle in it, unlike the UEFA groups.

Yup, Bolivia aside there isn't an obviously poor team and even then they make up for it with the odd shock at altitude.

 

Chile are a couple of players (defenders) away from being genuine contenders for the final 4, Colombia should be better than they are, Uruguay are generally overachieving and Venezuela have come from mediocrity do be a well drilled outfit.
