NUFC Statistical Analysis (12/13 Season)

Recommended Posts

From a defensive point of view Tioté is an impressive player, making 5 out of 5 tackles and also making 9 interceptions, 7 more than any other player.

Suppose this fits in here now. Was taken from a Swansea fan's chalkboard analysis. Thought it was interesting and showed his value to the team very nicely.

At least that graph shows there's plenty of time to catch up.

We're heading into a five-game lull for both of the previous seasons.

If we're going to catch up we really need to win the next 2/3 games.

Nicked off Happy Face on Toontastic:

Comfortably more long balls than any other team in the league. That table doesn't look so bad when you see that Fulham and Everton (who both play good stuff) are 2nd and 3rd but when you look at long balls as a percentage of total passes, it looks worse because they play vastly more short passes than we do:

Newcastle United 24.5%

Reading 24.5%

Stoke 23.1%

West Ham 21.3%

Aston Villa 20.6%

Norwich 20.5%

Sunderland 19.2%

West Bromwich Albion 19.0%

Everton 17.9%

Tottenham 17.9%

Queens Park Rangers 17.0%

Fulham 16.1%

Wigan 15.5%

Chelsea 13.4%

Swansea 12.8%

Liverpool 12.7%

Southampton 12.7%

Manchester United 11.6%

Manchester City 10.5%

Arsenal 9.7%

Essentially, 1 in 4 of our passes is a long ball.

I'd love to see Pardew confronted with these statistics.  It really is beyond a joke.

Is Dekka taking questions in the Chronicle anytime soon? ;)

On a related note, I bet he wouldn't do a phone in on radio during this difficult period. He was all too happy to do it when everything was going right.

whoscored.com is OK, if you ignore the silly strength and weaknesses they give teams and players.

Ben Arfa the most successful dribbler of the ball in top flight European leagues at the moment (according to whoscored)

Long ball pass stats from the Swansea game - Krul 20, Williamson 12, Tiote 8, Ben Arfa 7 while the most by a Swansea player was 9 (GK) then 6 from De Guzman.

From West Ham - Krul 20 again, Cabaye 15, Simpson 9, 7 each from Taylor and Santon while West Ham's most was the GK again with 19 and the next after that was Noble with only 8 then McCartney with 5. We played vastly more than they did.

Cabaye is, by a fair margin, the player who plays the most on average per game other than Krul (who also seems to go long far more than the opposition keeper).

I think most agreed we played more long ball than west ham and they looked the better team.
