Newcastle United 1 - 1 Aston Villa - 02/09/12 - post-match reaction from page 39

Cabaye needs to calm down when it comes to constantly trying to find Ba/Cisse from deep in midfield. They're both hopeless at dealing with those types of balls.

Exactly pass it to ben arfa is possible, he should link up with cisse and ba better than just hoofing it

Maybe Villa aren't as bad as we thought, and maybe we're not as good as we thought.

Still to put together a sustained period of meaningful attacking move this season IMO.

Come on, they're poor. They've got so much space though, I'm not surprised we're making them look adequate. I think 4-4-2 is really poor from Pardew, it's completely nullifying some of our strengths, Ben Arfa needs to be receiving it higher up the pitch and Cisse looks woeful without proper service.

What a load of fucking bollocks. Why cant we ever have two competent full backs at this club?

Despite the scoreline Villa are so poor, but we're making them look so comfortable. Thank God Simpson's gone, now lets kick on and get something out of this awful game so far. Get Ben Arfa and Yohan more involved is a must.

Wondered how many people on here would have a guilty smile when they saw him go down.

no urgency in our play, corners, freekicks and especially throwings, just hurry and take them, you're a goal down, overpaid turds.

also tired of this 4-4-2

we are leaving huge spaces between attack and midfield and midfield and defence.  none of our players are taking up them spaces and running between the lines.

we just got 3 parallels lines of men along the pitch with huge spaces left unfilled, really poor

What happen with the "play at the deck" and "control the midfield"?

We are so opened it´s pathetic and we are so bad at playing passing football it´s embarrassing. this is going to be a looooooooooooonnnnng season.

and oh. Cabaye can´t be bothered and Ba is such a ego.

Cabaye's been absolutely dreadful so far this season.

His set pieces have been inexcusably bad, but there's no wonder he's played shite in this formation.

/ Having three wrong-footers on either wings leaves us completely unbalanced

/ We don't have any great crossers of the ball

/ Ba and Cisse aren't a natural partnership, their individual attributes don't lend to one another

/ Ben Arfa, our flair player, is restricted by the fact he keeps receiving the ball too deep and too wide

/ Cabaye, our other flair player, is restricted by the fact that he is too deep and not allowed to attack

/ Having only two centre-mids doesn't allow us to boss the midfield like it does with three

/ The strikers become isolated and that is exacerbated by the lack of fluidity, and constant long balls

/ It's too rigid and predictable. The flat midfield doesn't allow the likes of HBA to drift over to the other wing and keep the opposition guessing.

/ The facts: By February the 4-4-2 had gone completely stale and we were picking up some shite results. We changed it and won six on the bounce. Now we've reverted back to it and are playing shite again. Quelle surprise.

... to name but a few reasons for why that formation doesn't work. It's a load of fucking bullshit and is the sole reason why we are losing.

We don't need to play with as much width as you'd need in a 442. Jonas is no longer a wide player. His wing play is absolutely predictable, and offers nothing. He looks lethargic out there stuck to the touch line, and almost in a left full back role. We need a triumvirate in the middle of the park, moving the ball about, getting it forward to HBA and the forwards. It's so fucking obvious.

Needs to swap Santon and Anita if the dutchman is left footed(took the shot quite well with his right though). Isn't right back still Santon's preferred position?

Jonas's been very very bad and keeps giving the ball away every time he touches it.

Cisse's and Ba's partnership looks quite bad. Ba doesn't even try to look for Cisse when he's on the ball. Going for solo every single time and trying too difficult things out there. Cisse and Cabaye are just way off the pace...
