Pata
Agree he deserves punishment just saying I don't think he intended to end his career or anything like some in here. I agree with this, don't think it was intentional. just a silly silly tackle, that unfortunately could have ended a very young players career. It was the classic "if I get a touch on the ball, I can kill the other guy". He clearly tried to hurt him ffs.
CheikBoom
Wigan have gone down in my estimation here. How on earth can they defend that? If you see the video, he follows through with his other legs. Ends up being both legs off the ground. Hopefully the book is thrown at him...

Jack Flash
Plenty of leg/ankle breakers go almost completely unpunished because the players who gets fouled don't get injured. It's really unfortunate that a player has had to be injured for this to be a big issue (for the next few days anyway).

Fuzzy
Just watched the clip again a couple times. Now actually unsure on the malice. From this clip it looks like he dident go for the ball and the leg was his intended target. Mikky
I think intent was to clear ball but momentum carried him into the planted leg. Not defending the result though, it was nasty. You don't clear a ball like that. Correct. You clear the ball with your laces not studs!! How anyone can defend the Wigan player is beyond me. I agree with the rules that Uefa employ in the CL and Europa: You raise your feet that high its a freekick

Skeletor
Just heard Whelan's comments. He sounded like a babbling moron. When asked why it wouldn't send a wrong message if he escaped a ban he had to hesitate and think of something.

AlanSkÃrare
Until yesterday I didn't care about Wigan. After the tackle I disliked them. After Martinez and Whelan's comments I want that meaningless excuse of a club wiped off the planet.

Cronky
It's a worry because the player went straight into the side of the knee with full force. If Haidara gets away with a 6 month lay-off and a return to full fitness then I'd count that a good result. I fear it could be a lot worse. Time will tell. Whelan's comments won't have helped his player at all. Apart from anything else, IIRC the contact with the knee came before the contact with the ball, and the contact with the ball was fairly minimal. Dokko
I've stayed away from football for nearly 24 hrs, come in to this thread and I'm still fucking raging, Whealen, the ref, Martinez, mcmanaman, if I saw any of those cunts right now I'd be locked up. Bunch of complete pricks. On a lighter note I saw he's due for a scan Monday afternoon and sat there for 5 mins thinking fuck me that's ages away, why so long. Then I realised its Monday Football can still fuck of mind, really CBa with any of it. Get well soon Mass.
jdckelly
you know before the game I was thinking to myself how I actually didn't mind Wigan these days, liked Martinez as a manager and trying to remember why I disliked them so much in the first place so I must say thank you to Dave Whelan for reminding me exactly why I detest Wigan and thank you to Martinez for removing any shred of wishing them well I had and I look forward to their relegation whenever it happens and look forward to them disappearing into oblivion once they do

It's really unfortunate that a player has had to be injured for this to be a big issue (for the next few days anyway). There was no way that challenge was not going to cause injury though, you cannot just sweep all bad tackles into the same bracket. Although more do need to be punished retrospectively. Genuinely one of the worst challenges I've ever seen.
