Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa joins AS Roma then Lyon

Recommended Posts

Wasn't he brought in when Colo went a bit batshit and already had one foot out the door? Pretty sure he's just been used as a utility with the intention of replacing Colo at some point. Definitely has it in him but needs to be played in his right position in a regular basis before Pardew wrecks him.

Good old Pards

Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa’s Newcastle United future is under serious threat, with Alan Pardew harbouring reservations about the France defender’s suitability for the Premier League.

The 24-year-old was hauled off at half-time on Saturday after struggling terrible in an unfamiliar right-back slot against Southampton, and is seemingly running out of chances with the Newcastle manager.

Pardew – who believes that Mike Williamson has performed well enough to be considered a first-choice centre-back next season – is also understood to have doubts about the defender’s aerial ability.

Yanga-Mbiwa has not been able to nail down a regular starting slot under Pardew since he came to club from Montpellier, whose club president Louis Nicollin said the move had been unsuccessful.

Yanga-Mbiwa was linked with Lille last week and it is understood that there have been soundings to French clubs from parties close to the defender.

Whether these have come because the player wants to play regularly in his centre-back slot is unclear, but the January 2013 capture is one of the stars under threat in the possible summer overhaul. United are intending to bring in up to seven new players in the summer but there is likely to be a number of high-profile departures too, with Yanga-Mbiwa and Steven Taylor both under threat.

Nicollin hinted earlier this month that Yanga-Mbiwa was wrong to choose Newcastle, when discussing the future of United target Remy Cabella. “For my dear Yanga-Mbiwa, Newcastle was not Eldorado,” he said.

United still hold out hope of bidding for Cabella, however, who is understood to be one of a number of French players in the sights of Newcastle in the close season.

Indeed there have been a series of “positive” meetings about Newcastle’s transfer targets – including one as recently as last week – in the summer which partly explains Pardew’s bullishness despite United’s form collapsing of late.

If the United boss ticks the box of a top-10 finish it looks nailed on that he will remain at St James’ Park to oversee the rebuilding job that Newcastle insiders accept is almost inevitable – although as Mike Ashley illustrated with his appointment of Joe Kinnear last year, nothing can be considered an absolute certainty during his tenure at St James’ Park.

His presence at Newcastle’s last four games has been interesting and intriguing, however – and most certainly an illustration that he is taking a much keener interest in the club .

He needs to, for there is serious work to be done for United to arrest a worrying post-Yohan Cabaye slide, which will require significant investment and managing of the players already at the club.

Today, Journal columnist Don Hutchison writes that he believes half of Newcastle’s players would choose to leave this summer if they could, and some worrying quotes emerged from across the Channel from an interview Mathieu Debuchy gave with French television channel Telefoot.

The France international called Paris Saint-German “immense” and feels that it is a “great club” – although that came after an assurance that he remained under contract at St James’ Park.

“I’m still under contract with Newcastle, and I am focused on the conclusion of the season and the World Cup,” he said.

“After that we do not know what the future holds. But PSG is immense.

“It is a great club, I think it would appeal to all players.”

Fabricio Coloccini is another player whose future is shrouded in mystery, with his form having collapsed in the last few weeks. United also have a decision to make on their skipper.

No actual Pardew quotes to back this up, but if true then Pardew only has himself to blame for dropping him for Steven fucking Taylor when Mapou was playing great at centre back.

Like most of our signings he has struggled to make an impact and has probably gone downhill. The management of our players is appalling.

I thought he has done well when playing CB not next to Colo. He does the Colo role perfectly, he's no physical beast. With Colo on the downhill and probably leaving at the end of the season we should just look to get a physical player. I don't rate Shawcross that highly, but a player in his or Caulkers mould would be perfect for us. Williamson isn't good enough to start for this club and Taylor has gotten chance after chance after chance without ever convincing anyone that he's supposed to be a starter in the PL.

I guess nothing of this will happen and we will be selling MBiwa, Colo and looking to bring someone in like Roger Johnson :anguish:

Well he did make an impact and he was playing well alongside Willimson BUT then he was bizarrely dropped for Taylor

MYM's performances have not been anywhere near bad enough to justify some of the abuse he's been getting. He's being made into a scapegoat. He had a bad game against Everton at Goodison (which tbh all of our players did, at least in the first half) and since then people jumped on his back at every available opportunity. He is not a full-back, he's a centre back but unfortunately the club didn't feel the need to bring in back up specialist right-back so we have to play centre backs or if we're really stuck then Anita will play there. The fact is the whole team has been playing s**** lately but Yanga-Mbiwa seem to come in for the most abuse because he's the easiest to blame out of Williamson (had a decent season, English), Coloccini (Captain, almost immune from criticism) and Dummett (local lad learning the league).

The guy has been dropped from the team and reinstated on a whim various times by Pardew and now he's being played out of position through necessity. He's had a number of very good games for us and has been awarded man of the match a few times. It's the midfield that wants sorting. A midfield two consisting of Tiote and Anita is not going to do much to relieve pressure on the defence, we lost that when we sold and didn't replace Cabaye. There is absolutely nothing to relieve the pressure as well with Remy out of the team. Cisse just can't make the ball stick in the final third like him. De jong has looked like he can be that man but has failed to do it consistently.

MYM is an excellent defender and we need to stick by him. Talk in the press this morning about us wanting to sell him is premature and completely unjustified.

I kind of get the feeling that Pardew is deliberately setting up some of the French players to fail in order to try and achieve his aim of more English players.

Supposedly with Taylor leaving in the Summer and now the possibility of MYM and Colo also going, it looks like we are going to need 3 CBs unless they give a couple of the youngsters a chance.

It is all well and good saying they are going to get x amount of players, but we struggle to get one player over the line and are reluctant to pay the going rate.  Other clubs are going to see how desperate we are and no doubt will push for higher fees (especially with all that TV money).  The recent inactivity in the transfer market is going to cause them some huge problems in the Summer.  They should never have allowed themselves to get into this position.

Fact is, if we go into the summer with Pardew, and he doesn't get a big say on the players he wants, this kind of thing is just going to keep happening over and over again. Ashley’s current plan is flawed unless basically this is actually what he wants. Which is hard to see when he’s missing out on millions on potential player sales.

He's never going to get full value of Carr with Pardew, and then he’s never going to get full value of Pardew with Carr. They are pulling in opposite directions, then coming together on some sort of agreement. If Ashley had any ambition or any football logic, he'd see what a great asset Carr could be with the right man controlling the side. Ashley is either blind to it or just content with how things are going and feels no need for change.

There's a reason i've basically opted for Carr at the end...but if you want to find something negative in the post, suppose it would be that, but the point of the post has clearly whooooshed you.

I'm with Brett on this. The sooner we can get players like MYM, Anita, HBA, Marveaux, Cisse off our books the better. They've just been an anchor around Pard's neck. He needs to able to choose from players he actually wants so he can shape the team with his own vision in mind!

Nah I got the point of the entire post, but you threw out something that you've been defending for ages that isn't for a second true. Delete that sentence and you've a very good post.

Well you clearly have still missed the point of the post when i'm basically saying Ashley is our biggest problem, not anyone else and i've never backed down for the hatred i have for Ashley. Ashley seems clueless when it comes to running the football club and he's either just stubborn enough to take everything as it is atm and settle on it or he doesn't have a good close advisor who is telling him the team has so much more potential and could be more profitable with a better manager in charge.

He's just sat on the fence watching his club sway one way and then the other but isn't half arsed as long as it keeps bringing in it's current money.

The sad thing is, Pards probably looks at the squads of West Ham and Sunderland with envy. He'd love a team of Mark Noble's and Liam Bridcutt's.

When he took over, he had a squad he could work with. Then we flogged them and started to rebuild. That's what doesn't make sense to me. Ashley knew he was flogging off these players so why didn't he pick a manager who could work with Carr's findings in the first place. Just doesn't make sense with Ashley. When Hughton was sacked (correctly), it was the perfect opportunity to upgrade to a top manager and start the rebuilding.

Bridcutt? Very similar player to Anita as he keeps his side ticking over, but as with Anita he lacks in the physical department.
