Glad I haven't followed any news this summer so these are not as big blows as normally.

tbh it's best to avoid the forum rumour threads until late july, they're horrible places

Surely no one is shocked by this

Of course not. We wouldnt even pay the reasonable fee for him let alone manage to persuade him to pick us over Dortmund

No surprise here - what decent young player would join the shambles that is NUFC when he can go to one of the best-supported clubs in the best-run league in Europe ?

NUFC are second rate at best under this administration and are basically a make-up-the-numbers club.

Get used to it - for the foreseeable future.

Still, who cares as long as a past-his-best former Mackem is still a possibility..?

Wonder if we even made a real offer for him, has he chosen them over us or were we not even in the running?

Swansea and Westham are both trying to sign Bony for £10.2m surely we can throw our hat into the ring too.

I don't think we ever made a bid, we asked to be "kept in the loop" but no bid was made.

This. The fact that he is going for a quite affordable fee suggests we were just hoping a bargain would emerge rather than actively trying to sign up a player we have wasted 18 months scouting and watching regularly.

Yep.

The Journal:

United had been in contact with the Ligue 1 club over the last 10 days but do not appear to have been involved when things heated up over the last 48 hours.

They had been encouraged by agents working on his behalf – and by Aubameyang himself – in the last week, but Mike Ashley appears keen to recruit within a budget again.

Had on. What suggests that, exactly? The fact we didn't get involved when he was about to join a club that can offer Champions Legaue football? If they're getting him for 13m euro, that's not too far off the £10m we bid for him in January.

Hope Remy gets stuck at QPR tbh.

Me too.

This view will drastically change towards the end of the transfer window mind

What has his destination got to do with the fact we never actually bid for him between January & July? It was only a week or so ago that he showed willingness to come here so its not a big push to think we could have sealed a deal some time before BVB came in, we had 6 months to do so if we really wanted. Seeing as the fee is £13m then its more likely we passed off a chance to pay a reasonable amount for our number one target in favour of waiting and losing.

i think the fact we didn't make a bid suggests that we didn't make a bid tbh. We had time to make a bid before Dortmund emerged that was a fairly recent development, but we didn't.

 Now, now. You know that's not what I meant, nor was it what Roger said. Since Ashley got his fingers burned, we've operated on a budget, hence our miniscule nett spend on players. I see no reason why that was to change. Perhaps you know better?

The interest from Dortmund has been reported for a fair while now. I'd say we probably knew quite a bit more about it than is public, due to our ongoing dialogue with his club and the player's agent. I dare say that, had we made an decent bid (like in January), Dortmund may have been prompted into making a bid of their own. I appreciate that this is quite a leap, but I hope you can understand where I'm coming from.

All to do with the price nothing else, wants any signing on the cheap or we just move on, its utterly ridiculous. Yes get bargains in when you can but a proven striker will cost good money. We cannot scout our top targets then put such a cheap limit on what we would pay for them, the club is a joke right now with the JFK farce so its going to be hard enough to attract players anyway.

Bent or bust I reckon.

I think we informed them of the highest we would pay, and basically if no one else had come in with a higher offer, we would then push for them to accept ours.

Hence the keep us in the loop spiel.

You don't think that just maybe, like most clubs looking at a transfer, we've spoken to the players representatives and knew that at this stage he wasn't willing to sign for us?  So naturally we've asked his club and his representatives to keep us informed so that we can react accordingly.  Unfortunately the only reaction that's worth considering when a club like Dortmund comes in is "Oh well, next".

We missed out on:

Gomis - done ok with Lyon

Gaimero- Has had limited opertunety with PSG

Gervinho- Has been a disappointment with Arsenal

Erdinc - Has done ok with PSG and Rennes

Luuk de Jong - Had a disappointing season with Mönchengladbach

Remy - did reasonably well in a disappointing QPR team

It's not like any of the players we missed out on have turned out to be superstars.  Not really bothered we are missing out on PEA to Dortmund.

More bothered about my lack of faith that we will bring in what is needed during the summer.
