Coventry and Ireland superstar.  Had a canny World Cup in 2002 and apparently agreed to sign for Inter Milan (yes, Inter fucking Milan!) but failed a medical so took the next logical step and joined another Italian team in the Champions League West Ham United.  He did finally get to play for a team in a cultured European city when he signed for sunderland in 2003 before seeing out his days with Wolves and Barnet.

Full back cover in my World Cup winning Italy side

Wasn't he Argentinian?

Yes, but eligible to play for Italy on my FM save.

Kiki Musampa - on loan at Manchester City before things went awol over there.

Andy van der Meyde - brought in before Everton were due to play Champions League. Highly rated after his time at Ajax. Disappeared completley and went into a depression. Played 6 games for WKE from Emmen last season without scoring a goal.

Stelios Giannakopoulos. Scored 7 goals in 34 league games in 04/05, then followed it up with 9 in as many games, playing as a winger in Allardyce's Bolton.

Wanchope was 90s mainly surely? Remember that Derby goal on his debut at Old Trafford? Sure that was 97ish.

Retired after the 2006 World Cup so by that he played twice as long in the 00s than he did the 90s.

Guess it's how you associate him. I always think of him alongside Dean Sturridge for Derby in the late 90s rather than his City spell.

Stare at that face and tell me there's not a bit of Tim Krul in there...

Really interesting article/interview with him recently about his problems:

Good interview. Really sad stuff tbh, such a talent at one point. That Ajax side was brilliant. Chivu, Sneijder, van der Vaart, van der Meyde, Zlatan, Mido, Pienaar, De Jong, Trabelsi, a joy to watch.
