Agree with Ickey. Have always hoped that when we upgrade we go for a more inspiring choice than Jol. Could be comfortably argued that Pardew's achievement last year was more impressive than anything Jol has managed in his career.

A better long-term option please.

I think ultimately its also down to the availability of cheap managers that could be employed too, if a better manager say Jol, Martinez etc or someone they can afford becomes available , i think they would consider Fraud Pardew's position.

Jol or Martinez would be the very definition of a sideways step.

Jol wouldn't be a sideways step from Pardew like, no chance.

He would. Plays dour, long ball football, his teams are prone to collapse and loves a midfield clogger. Gosling would get game time like, so every cloud.

I disagree, I think his Spurs team played good stuff and Fulham aren't bad to watch either.  Did a terrific job at Spurs after they'd been a midtable side as long as I could remember.  He's streets ahead of Pardew in terms of playing style and achievements, it would be far from a sideways step to bring him in.

Fulham play the second highest number of long balls in the league (guess who's first?). I've watched them a few times this season and they're dire, no more exciting than ourselves or Stoke in spite of the combined genius of Berbatov and Ruiz. They could still go down too. I don't know which Fulham you've watched.

Pardew's shit, but if we're going to sack him let's set our sights a little higher than Jol.

I can't say I watch a lot of Fulham if I'm honest, I've seen them a few times this season and been vaguely entertained but perhaps that's partly down to their flair players as you imply.  There's no way they're as bad as us or Stoke to watch though, I'm not having that.  Plus their personnel is nowhere near as good or technical or suited to a passing game as ours, so perhaps he's making the best of his limited resources.

I do remember quite well the job he did at Spurs though when he had some good players (a luxury his predecessors had done nothing to utilise, save for the odd cup run) and they played some great stuff and placed highly in the league.  Thought it was incredibly harsh when he was sacked and so it proved when Spurs' unravelled when they appointed Ramos.  He was doing a good job with the players available to him.  And I doubt he was playing hoofball at Hamburg or Ajax.

Give Jol our squad to work with and a few additions so he can stamp his mark and I think he'd do an excellent job.

There are better managers out there and in all honesty I'd prefer we really splashed out and brought one of them in, but Jol wouldn't command a massive wage I'd imagine, he has Premiership experience and would more than likely want to come here (given that he's gotten over us sacking Hughton). He would be a very good appointment in the market that Mike and Decka would be looking in if we're to believe our own perceptions of them. I would be absolutely stunned if he managed to nearly relegate our squad

Likewise this season is equally as impressive as anything Jol has ever done, for differing reasons.

I agree that we should go as high as we can, but if it's a choice between Jol and Pardew I cannot think of a single reason why you would stick rather than twist.

I wouldn't say Jol was a sideway step, but I wouldn't be overly thrilled with him either.

Aye, Fulham were one of the worst teams to play us at SJP this season along with QPR.

People will be begging for Jol after another 3 years of Pardew...They'll probably be begging for Kim Jong Ill.

Another 3 years of Pardew would suggest we've had a pretty decent time of it. So no, I doubt in this fictional future people would fancy Jol in the slightest.

The future is always fictional. ;)

Jol is overrated. He's better at certain aspects of management than Pardew, but he gets a lot of good press because he's such a likeable personality. He's got that Fulham team under-performing, they should be nowhere near the relegation scrap and have been on some woeful runs of form. I'd still take him (and see him as an upgrade) but would ultimately think he's still not good enough.

We've got a better first 11 than Fulham.

This is classic NO stuff. Just about a sniff of surviving relegation and some nutter starts Pardew revisionism.

How can you be revisionist about something a thousand days down the line?

I was referring to the other poster. Or I'd have quoted you.

I went to about 11 HSV games the season they finished 5th and got to 2 semi-finals. Jol did a fantastic job in the Bundesliga with limited money.

If you wish to appear clueless do continue.

If we are to step into the void, then gentlemen, let us reach for the stars.

Of course I'd rather we got Laudrup but I can't stand by and let Jol get tramelled with not a whisker to back it up. ;)
