I'm interested in people's opinion's on what it'll take to see him sacked next season. In the drop zone until christmas?

Depends who we sell and who we bring in and what the team is set up like...what will ashleys league target be?

We are only in 3 comps next season...europa nollox wont wash.

I think an awful first 10 games might see a wobble.

Im worried about the carroll talk..

If in doubt put it long business.

Its a fresh start but i have concerns

What a cheerful line of discussion.

 Ok Ian, I'm interested in your opinion of how much you think we'll improve next season.

I don't really know, depends on the start we make. Better than this season, not as good as the one before. I just find it a bit tedious to spend time discussing how shit we're going to be.

If he's the favourite to go next then put your house on him staying. He won't be sacked next season.

Why do you say that? Because we'll do better, or just they won't sack him whatever?

Because he survived the worst season I've ever watched and we won't do as badly as that next year so there's no reason to sack him.

You were born in 2010?

Fair enough, you might be right. I wouldn't be surprised if Ashley has given him a tougher target than just to do better than this season though. I don't think not sacking him now means he has no standards to meet in future.

Don't discuss it then.

I wasn't discussing it, I was saying it wasn't a cheerful line of discussion. Then you asked me a question about my opinion.

Would you be bothered if we played long ball and started twatting in the goals with Carroll/Cisse?

I wasn't as bothered about the relegation season because there was so much going on (Keegan, Kinnear, Shearer etc) that it was likely to end badly. There's no excuses at all for how badly last year went and that to me is far worse.

I think we'll finish mid-table which is the best result for everyone that matters. I don't see Pardew getting us much higher and I don't see Ashley envying the task of finding a new manager so it'd be win win.

4 Excuses. Off the top of my head

We were top of the injury table.

Our captain buggered off in january.

We didn't invest properly in Summer.

Demba Ba's contract was poorly handled and for fears he would go Pardew had to play him in his desired position, shifting Cisse out wide.

But I asked you about improving ???

Anyway I just wanted to know what people thought, cheerful or not. Fwiw I think it would have to be as bad as in the drop zone for the whole time.

And that would take us from 5th to almost relegated? No thanks.

Obviously Pardew was fairly set in his ways and didn't learn from mistakes but the board/bad luck gave him a massive helping hand.

Another January where his top striker left and wasn't replaced.

No point going over all this again. It's mostly Pardew's fault and nothing will change my mind on that.

Time to move onwards and sideways and focus on next season now.

You know when you pretend to throw something for a dog and no matter how many times you do it he keeps running?

That's Mike Ashley and a lot of our fans. Him and Derek will be pissing themselves at Casino 'Al getting all the blame.

People are overestimating Ashely's allegiance to Pardew. He'll have used up most of the good will he earned previously. Is there any actual reason to think that that owner is prepared to watch the world burn if it means his mate keeps a job? Pardew is still here because he performed significantly better than expected in 2011-2012 and because he is a tolerable personality in terms of interaction with the board. Even the much discussed 8 year contract came after a thoroughly acceptable start to the season, which had been preceded by our best campaign in several years. Much has changed since then, and I think Pardew was legitimately on the brink in May even after QPR. There are covert signs of discontent from the players/staff, overt signs of anger from the supporters, and the lack of tangible improvement after the investment in January will be important to the man that dispense the funds. If things continue in the same vein, he will go, he almost already went.
