BrettNUFC
I think we'll sign two or three in Jan regardless of our position. Mike loves the January sale.

KaKa
Yeah, I think the club feels they get better deals in January, and essentially use the summer as a period to declare initial interest, and then start whittling the price down leading up to January. Just wish they'd come out and admit it.
thomas
Because really, what are stats except the collective representation of factual data? I'd much rather hear about emotions and how they relate to objective truth.

Just wish they'd come out and admit it. Because although its a financially sound way to conduct business, it is of course detrimental to the club as we're always treading water until January and then playing catch up by which time the first few months have taken their toll on our squad physically and mentally. Happy Face
Because really, what are stats except the collective representation of factual data? It is a problem that many people mistrust facts these days. It's a direct result of zombie stats getting widely spread in the media by journalists that don't understand or care about the specific details, just the sensational story. So (completely making up a stat here) 10 deaths in 5 million from meningitis growing to 19 deaths in 5 million is reported as "Kids 90% more likely to die". I'd much rather hear about emotions and how they relate to objective truth. They actually aren't though They can be, but they can still come down to human judgement and/or error. All data is open to interpretation and never tells the whole story. Plus the admission and exclusion of salient information can be used to twist any truth. Hanshithispantz
People calling stats "facts" man Stats can be based on facts, as can an opinion, so although it sounds cutting it's really completely irrelevant. "I saw Cisse miss from 5 yards whilst the keeper was on the floor and slice another from 40 yards out for a throw in" is just a grounded by facts as "Cisse Shots Off Target - 2", only the former actually means something. Mole_Toonfan
"statistics are just like mini-skirts, they give you good ideas but hide the most important thing". With that i'm out.
Mattoon
We won 6 games and x team won 4 therefor we're better. We lost 14 games and x team lost 5 now who's better? I believe what I see on a pitch, not what some carefully selected information tells me, no matter how much it's spun.
Happy Face
The funny thing is I've barely used any stats to defend Pardew apart from the fact his team aren't as reliant on the long ball...which no-one disagrees with and is blatant to anyone that's watched us over a period of time in 2013. People just go apeshit at the sight of a number.
