Any man who uses stats as the main crux of his argument cannot be trusted IMO.

9 times out of 10 you'd be right

Because really, what are stats except the collective representation of factual data?

It is a problem that many people mistrust facts these days.  It's a direct result of zombie stats getting widely spread in the media by journalists that don't understand or care about the specific details, just the sensational story.

So (completely making up a stat here) 10 deaths in 5 million from meningitis growing to 19 deaths in 5 million is reported as "Kids 90% more likely to die".

They actually aren't though

They can be, but they can still come down to human judgement and/or error.

All data is open to interpretation and never tells the whole story. Plus the admission and exclusion of salient information can be used to twist any truth.

People calling stats "facts" man

Stats can be based on facts, as can an opinion, so although it sounds cutting it's really completely irrelevant.

"I saw Cisse miss from 5 yards whilst the keeper was on the floor and slice another from 40 yards out for a throw in" is just a grounded by facts as "Cisse Shots Off Target - 2", only the former actually means something.

The funny thing is I've barely used any stats to defend Pardew apart from the fact his team aren't as reliant on the long ball...which no-one disagrees with and is blatant to anyone that's watched us over a period of time in 2013.

People just go apeshit at the sight of a number.

Unbelievable hypocrisy like.

Tbf, we're talking about and watching football. Stats are raw and can be used however you want them to be used, no matter how ridiculous. Like saying 'Swansea only finished 5 points ahead of us'.

I'm not against using stats at all, but I think using them as a crutch and putting them above your own experience, your gut and your judgement is complete lunacy.

I couldn't watch a match and be consoled with the amount of shots we had, if I knew, first hand that we played s***.

I actually could have done with Happy Face over the summer for a bit of positivity. I think he's refreshing for the forum rather than usual suspects trying to gauge an opinion on how we can still have a good season regardless of Pardew’s shitness.

If the average Newcastle fan was as embittered towards Pardew (as opposed to Ashley) as this forum is then he would have been booed out of town long ago.  Proper Rat King of loathing has built up on here I think, and more people join with a loss than escape with a win/draw.

Dissenting voices seem to get sarcasm or stick more than consideration of points made....until you ask them to put their money where their mouth is ;)
