Mattoon Posted September 24, 2013 Share Posted September 24, 2013 Yeah, I think the club feels they get better deals in January, and essentially use the summer as a period to declare initial interest, and then start whittling the price down leading up to January. Just wish they'd come out and admit it. Because although its a financially sound way to conduct business, it is of course detrimental to the club as we're always treading water until January and then playing catch up by which time the first few months have taken their toll on our squad physically and mentally. It is a problem that many people mistrust facts these days. It's a direct result of zombie stats getting widely spread in the media by journalists that don't understand or care about the specific details, just the sensational story. So (completely making up a stat here) 10 deaths in 5 million from meningitis growing to 19 deaths in 5 million is reported as "Kids 90% more likely to die". All data is open to interpretation and never tells the whole story. Plus the admission and exclusion of salient information can be used to twist any truth. "I saw Cisse miss from 5 yards whilst the keeper was on the floor and slice another from 40 yards out for a throw in" is just a grounded by facts as "Cisse Shots Off Target - 2", only the former actually means something. Stats are raw and can be used however you want them to be used, no matter how ridiculous. Like saying 'Swansea only finished 5 points ahead of us'. I'm not against using stats at all, but I think using them as a crutch and putting them above your own experience, your gut and your judgement is complete lunacy.
