Raconteur
Guus Hiddink succeeds Louis van Gaal as manager of Netherlands after the World Cup on a two year contract, Danny Blind and Ruud van Nistelrooy will work as his assistants. Will make them much more likeable. If there's one manager on the international scene that I really appreciate it's Guus Hiddink. A true gentleman and I think that he could've possibly have 3 4th places in the World Cup had Australia not been cheated by that penalty against Italy in 2006. Bringing that decision up? Italy and Spain have plenty to be aggrieved during his 2002 run with Korea. True. Still doesn't take away the fact that a decision gone against him also made him unable to advance in 2006. And Italy have nothing to be aggrieved about in that World Cup either. If you're know for controversies you will always be on the end of having the ref misjudge you, ask Neymar. Totti used to dive and the ref (obviously made the wrong call) went against him. Dude. Seriously. I'm Australian, and I've never thought we were cheated out of anything. Grosso went down easily, sure, but the finger of blame gets pointed at the fucking idiot fucking captain who should have fucking known better than to leave his fucking leg hanging out in the fucking box for the fucking Italian to fucking well fall over. Fucking fucker.
Guest Howaythetoon
Not really. If you want to win the league you usually need a top striker. Giroud isn't good enough to be the main striker for a title winning side. Ramsey's form dipped a bit before he got injured, if memory serves. Yet Hazard is Chelsea's leading scorer on 13 same as Giroud... Arsenal will not win the league because they don't have a winning mentality nor the back bone to see off their rival contenders. Ste
I don't think you necessarily need a top striker. You just need goals. Wasn't Lampard Chelsea's top scorer for one of their league wins? The first, I think.

Ste
Aye, and they had Drogba. 05/06 he wasn't their top scorer. Same as his first season there, 04/05. They won the league both seasons.

ponsaelius
Negredo on 9 surely can't be true? Thought he would have had at least 15 for some reason, although he was just scoring at home during his run of form. 23 in 41 in all comps. A large part of his good run of form came in the CL and cups.

Real might have received €300m, but spunked €600m in the same period. NUFC has made a profit of about £50m, though, by my calculations.

AlanSkÃrare
Swedish fan was killed prior to the opening day of the season here today, Helsingborg-Djurgården was abandoned as fans stormed the pitch when news of his death filtered through. The state of Swedish football - both playing wise and among fans - is worrying objectively speaking. Don't really support any team over here, but I go to games. It's all wrapped up in poor quality, little innovation, violence and hate rather than love for ones own team. Very different from going to football in England. Yet people here believe themselves to have imported the hooligan culture from England. What happend today didn't even surprise me.

I find the hooliganism in Swedish football interesting, as Sweden and Norway aren't all that different in its inhabitants mentalities or social structure. Yet our football cultures are nothing alike at all. It don't know, but part of me suspect this is partly down to the 51% rule over here. Supporters have a lot of influence and stay close to the clubs, something that could and should be nothing but beneficial for our footballing culture. However, in recent years I think something has changed. The firms and those who believe football and violence belong together have increased their say in matters and sort of encapsulated the mood around stadiums. I hear and feel so much hate here. Last season, Djurgårdens manager resigned after being "visited" by hooligans during a training session. In AIK, the CEO of the entire club is a former Hells Angels member with strong connections to their firm "Firman". Meanwhile, the entire debate over here is concerned with media portraying fans in a bad way, rather than how to minimize the influence of these people. They're fucking poison.
