The College Dropout
Interpolic, just relax mate. I'm not attacking anyone. Simply saying a CM not standing out might not be a great indication of averageness.

BrettNUFC
I'd be genuinely devastated and disappointed if Newcastle don't manage to keep hold of Kemen. Letting Abeid go was silly and if we manage to bump off Kemen as well, we've lost two very good young prospects needlessly. Tiote and Gouffran CM last night, he's never going to want to stay with us if we won't give him a look in a game like that with those two playing instead. BrettNUFC
I'm not having a go at either players ability or performance. More the fact both probably don't have too much longer here and we could/should have showed more faith in Kemen.
Village Idiot
The average fan would see a Petit, Carrick, Makelele or Busquets as fairly average imo. Big tackles, long balls & goals gets you noticed by most fans. Yeah, pretty much nobody but Guardiola (who'd managed him) thought much of Busquets while he was in our youth teams. xLiaaamx
Aye but imagine if we'd played a midfielder with no senior games in his career and it hadn't worked when we had other options? Steve would have been abused to no end

Steve would have been abused to no end Because he played one under 19 French captain in CM? I really don't think he would have ruined a team with the forward line we set out with against Northampton. If anything, he would have relished in the role, imo.
triggs
There was no reason not to play him ahead of Gouffran. He should go because he's obviously not going to get a chance here
Incognito
Petit was above average in the goal department anyhow.

That isn't my point. The average English football fan (the type that would watch a Newcastle reserve game) under-rated Busquets for a long time because he initially didn't stand out. I'm saying a few people watching our reserve games saying he doesn't standout - doesn't necessarily dictate that he's actual bang average. It might take you to actually concentrate on his movement, his passing etc. to appreciate his abilities. Possibly.

He should go because he's obviously not going to get a chance here I can't understand Gouffran playing either if he's on his way out. Same goes for Williamson as well really, but in his case McClaren probably didn't want our other cb's playing 3 games in a week.
Lotus
Aye but imagine if we'd played a midfielder with no senior games in his career and it hadn't worked when we had other options? Steve would have been abused to no end Sorry, but in the circumstances we faced last night, this is laughably ridiculous. Wait - are we taking the cup runs seriously or are we playing the kids? I'm confused. Not picking on either Lotus or Liam here.....because hindsight is a wonderful thing. This time we played a small team and won easily. Last season we played Peterborough and lost. I do wish that we would push Kemen into some serious game time if he is worth it, and perhaps the Cup games are the way to do it. But its also a risk and we have been banging on about taking the cup runs seriously.

Playing one young lad (French U19 captain so hardly unexposed) in a team of senior players would have been absolutely fine, especially over someone playing out of position who's never likely to play for us again. Given the other 'serious' players on the pitch and the bench, playing a guy we're trying to get rid of who has shown no promise in a position that is not even his own when you have a reservist who is a specialist there is more of a gamble. arnonel
Why is it ok to play lascelles/darlow and not Kemen? Why is it not ok to play Kemen when we are 3-1 up and dominating?
Unbelievable
Are people seriously suggesting that playing Gouffran in centre mid ahead of giving a young promising midfielder courted by Europe's elite a cup game vs league 2 opposition in his correct position is defensible because it's less risky to play the senior player who has proven time and time again to be absolute poo (in that position)? Unbelievable
Where's Bigi btw? He could have easily played in that position too if Kemen is somehow deemed not ready.
sugoinufc
Should not be sold...contract extension and loaned out for the next couple of seasons. No point in selling if he is so highly rated. I know nothing about him tbh.
Exiled in Texas
My point wasn't whether Kemen should have played or shouldn't play. The bit that ranked me was that the initial comment was "post-game / 4-1 result / easy game" that he should have played. Its easy in hind sight to say he should have played when we won 4-1. But there were no calls for him to play before the game.
Mole_Toonfan
Nobody thought Gouffran was gonna play CM tbf If they did i'm pretty sure people would have rather seen Kemen instead.

It just makes no sense at all to play Gouffran in centre mid, and to suggest such a statement can only be made in hindsight is laughable.
