Unbelievable
Poyet starting to sound more like Di Canio with every day that passes: But Poyet said: “I am not criticising the players, we say we here. We made bad decisions. I am the first one, so I am not criticising the players, I am saying we as a group, the staff, the players, every single one of us in the club are making errors. “I say I'm hammering it in to them. We keep hammering, hammering, hammering, if you tell me three times one thing and then I get it, the next time I will say stop it, don’t tell me any more, I got it but we haven’t yet because something happened. “It is not individuals not getting the message, it is the group. If it was one player it would be easy for me, because you drop him. It is the group that need to get it, the players altogether because they have to learn if one person makes a mistake their team-mates need to react.” Poyet described how he was “hurt” by the result and suggested Sunderland “would miss a penalty” if they got one such is the situation they are facing at the moment. And he was visibly surprised by just how poorly Sunderland played. He said: “On that performance we would not get enough points to stay up. On a normal day Spurs – and they had come here with more confidence – we would have lost 5-1. “Then it would be even worse. It does not change my opinion of the team because we lost 2-1 because I am realistic. They had chances and they didn’t go in. The defensive marking was the same.” Sunderland's last six home games have all come against teams challenging for a top four place, but they are due for a more generous – albeit vital - run of fixtures and Poyet is well aware of just how precarious the situation facing Sunderland is. He said: “If you don’t share the urgency, you are not realistic. We are playing West Ham, Cardiff, Norwich, when are we going to win three in a row? Now. It has to be now. The idea was to double the points before January, so we have lost another opportunity and somehow we had a normal performance in the first half and very poor in the second half. There is nothing to hide. “I looked at my first two home games and looked at Newcastle and Man City and thought `all the best’ and we won both. It was incredible. Then I was really looking forward to playing Hull and Stoke, and we didn’t play, how does it work? I don’t know. “But now, I think there is a line. Does the season start here? If it doesn’t start today we have got a massive problem. A start means win? Because everybody wins somehow, we don’t. I am the first one responsible, it is up to me now. It is up to the players as well, and they know that.” Poyet believes Sunderland have four “absolutely massive” Premier League games before the January transfer window opens on New Year's Day. He is keen to see immediate improvements, knowing he has plans to strengthen after the turn of the year. He said: “I am working on that for sure, that doesn’t change my mind. We always thought there were positions we needed to address and there are plenty of things going on behind the scenes. That doesn’t change. I hope things will help. How big? I don’t know because I don’t know yet.”
Wilson
I know it's been said before.... but it really must hurt them seeing us doing well. We were relegated, it was supposed to be their time to overtake us, but we bounce straight up and into Europe, something they can't even come near to. They outspent us, bought Johnson sess etc, their 'next level' players, only for them to not make the waves they were supposed to! Now they've lost 2 of their best players replaced with dross and are massively on the decline going through managers like cheesy chips while we are (seemingly) aiming for Europe again. They didn't even get a new manager bounce with Gus. Almost enough to have some sympathy for them... HAHA!

To think they signed about 14 players in the summer and we got Remy on loan Thing is they're demanding another influx in January. No doubt more ridiculously overpriced dross - will they ever learn? From the outside it looks like they could be in serious financial bother if they are relegated.

Guest BenArfa10
That article sounds like the ramblings of a Di Canio if ever there was one. It was never going to work for him at SAFC because they are Sunderland and nothing ever good happens in Sunderland. The last bit is just the mark of someone who has not got a single clue on how to rectify their season. 'I don't know because I just don't know yet'. You're the manager, isn't it your job to know? If I was a SAFC fan (god forbid) I would be thinking what the holy balls is this man doing in charge of my club, he doesn't know what he doesn't know and all he can talk about is hammers. I mean I don't even

Unbelievable
Get relegated, clear the decks. And build a long term strategy instead of blagging it season after season. Basically what happened to us during the relegation season. We kept the nucleus of our team and they are what brought us up on the first attempt. The mackems have half their squad on contracts ending at the end of the season, and a few of the better players will probably want away in any case if they do go down. Coupled with the fact that not many good players will want to join a relegated team, their situation could well be a lot different to ours.

WarrenBartonCentrePartin
It's the likes of Larsson, Gardner and Cattermole they need to bin - the ones that are being carried by others and offer absolutely nowt. If they went down and the likes of O'Shea, Johnson and Fletcher stayed put and they brought N'Diaye back, I think they'd be up at the first attempt with a few minor tweaks elsewhere. Unbelievable
Not one player there who they actually own that's worth keeping. Well, there's hardly anything worth keeping in any case (and the ones that are may well want away at the end of the season should relegation happen), but all these players will need replacing on an already limited budget, unless Short is willing to bankroll them to the tune of another 50 million or so to give them a chance to go straight back up. If they sink, I could see them struggling to come straight back up much more than we did thanks to the one thing Ashley got right in his time here: keeping a strong squad of mainly Premiersip players to ensure we would give ourselves the best possible chance of bouncing straight back. ScottishMagpie
anyone know how much he's got to spend in january? He'd be a complete fecking tool to take the job without some re-assurances he'd have some pocket money to spend in january. That team has all the hallmarks of what we looked and played like in our relegation season. They're doomed!!!!
Unbelievable
It's not even only how much they will have to spend, it's also about who decides how it is spent. I can imagine Poyet will not be there after January if they stick with De Fanti making the calls.
