Can see Tonali and even Hall getting some goals from outside the box

Tonali often seems to be in that danger area, and we seen what he can do in the cup game against Brentford

Hall, I've noticed he isn't shy to shoot and has a great left foot on him

I couldn't really pinpoint the correct thread to use so I'll take a pop at this one.

Whilst we're in with a shout of CL football this season, I wonder whether the wider target is European football of any sort? The news that Almiron and Kelly are potentially off, added with the no PSR issues for us this summer... I do wonder whether we're looking at a wider squad refresh?

Our first 11 is fantastic on its day but looking at the wider squad I don't personally think its capable of competing in any European competition and the Premier League. We're crying out for a RCB, RW & ST, but I'd go as far as saying we need a much better bench to complete on both fronts on a regular basis. If both Kelly and Almiron leave with no incomings this month, we'll see fans get twitchy.

Looking at the bench we've arguably got players on decent wages but they're not making an impact outside of Barnes and Wilson (if fit).

You have to assume summer 2025 is going to be a big window for us depending on where we finish this season. Almiron and potentially Kelly sold this window.

Schar and Krafth to get contract extensions. Pope will be an interesting one as he enters his final year, could see an extension and Trafford coming in.

Dubravka, Wilson, Lascelles, Ruddy and Lewis all out of contract and likely leaving end of the season.

Longstaff, Trippier and Targett will likely be moved on given their contracts end in 2026 - realistically these are deals we should be doing. Burn you could see getting a one year deal if we sell Kelly.

Mitchell certainly has his work cut out and especially if we qualify for Europe.

I do wish we made more tactical fouls. For their first goal today, Murphy should have pulled back the player as soon as the ball was short and taken the yellow.

I’ve seen us avoid tactical fouls too often, I used to get annoyed with Longstaff regularly for not taking a yellow for the team.

Today’s counter attack could have been snuffed out - and should have been- before they even got in our half.

Team discipline is shambolic at times. Centre  backs (especially Burn) bombing forward trying to get involved in areas where you just don’t want him is ridiculous.

Howe is obviously trying to evolve the team by using Dubravka and centre halves to try and create space for midfield. It keeps backfiring with teams just sitting back on our midfield.

The thing is Howe could change the shape.  The squad has plenty of players who could adapt to different roles.

Not for me, plus we don't have depth at CB for this

You know we've won 10 of 12 right ?  And the Burn bombing forward i haven't seen until today, so seems a bit of one off thing. I do agree we need to tweak tactics, but going overboard never goes well does it ?

Yeah, I know. I’m just saying he could change things with the players in the squad. I do agree that a formation change is somewhat drastic tho.

I was merely suggesting it to say there are different approaches. Take Forest today, they switched to 3 at the back after being pumped last week.

Squad isn't that thin, it's just unbalanced and limited quality wise. If anything it's bloated for a 1 game a week season. We massively lack genuine quality in forward areas and players to change a game. I'd get rid of more of the squadies if it could bring one genuine quality forward or wide player in.

We finally got a plan B! Get up!!!

Nowt has changed really.  As others have said, in possession it's 4-3-3, out of possession it's 5-4-1.

It's a tough one. Schar has dropped off significantly this season and on the face of it seems like the obvious one to bench. The problem is that we've seen how teams target Burn when we play with two left-footers. Even so I think the latter is probably the lesser of two evils.

If you had to let go of Schar OR Burn, who would you pick?

Burn goes - great servant

Schar stays as 4th choice (also have Krafth)

We buy 1 starting CB and another who provides genuine competition

A bit like buying Guehi then taking a punt on a Huijsen (last summer)

This is basically it for me - it’s really unbalanced and also lacks quality in the XI

GK - CB - RW - key XI signings

RB - LB need competition - I like the look of Alex Murphy - for RB > Aina?

DM - we lack an additional 6 that provides Tonali with competition

AM - a genuine creative player to provide competition

Hybrid forward - someone who can play all 3 positions

8 players - just about right (7 with Murphy)
