Neil
Aye I know, so do they basically get a pat on the back, a round of applause then they pretend like nowt's happened? Would the runners-up in the playoffs then get promoted instead?
The Prophet
Perhaps not as spectacular as the Barca-Atletico title decider, but some issues still to be settled around Europe. La Liga - 2 relegation places still to be confirmed (Betis went a while ago). 2 from Valladolid, Osasuna, Granada, Getafe, Almeria. 19th placed Valladolid play 17th placed Granada. All the relevant games kick off at 5pm. Coming up to La Liga for 14/15 are..... well, don't know yet since the Segunda Division keeps playing for a silly amount of time. 3 games left, Deportivo looking good for (another) return, Eibar 2nd. Barcelona B currently 3rd - VI/others, what happens with them if they get "promoted"? Bundesliga - Hamburg are in danger of being relegated to the second tier for the first time in their history. Drew 0-0 with Greuther Furth at home in the first leg of the play-off, second leg is today at 4pm. Nurnberg and Braunschweig already gone. Coming up to the Bundesliga for 14/15 are Koln and Paderborn, with the final spot being filled by either Hamburg or Furth. Serie A - f*** all to play for. Top 6 will be the top 6 regardless of today's last fixtures. Livorno, Bologna and Catania relegated. Coming up to Serie A for 14/15 are Palermo (unsurprisingly ran away with Serie B), then the rest is yet to be determined. Crazy playoff system in Serie B involving 6 teams, 3rd-8th. Empoli currently in 2nd. Couple of games to go. tl;dr: A club isn't allowed two teams in the same tier so they'd stay put. They won it a couple of years back. Neil
Disco can probably shed some more light on it as their league system appears to be absolutely mad, but I at least believe it's the last fixtures of Argentina's Torneo Final tonight and from what I can see, the title (?) is between Estudiantes and River? No, wait, it'll be combined between the Inicial and Final, no? Fuck it, I have no idea. There's Argieball tonight, put it that way.
Tooj
Didn't they used to have some mad rule that involved final positions being based on the last 3 years?
Neil
Relegation is based on an averaging system. At the end of each season, the two teams with the worst three-year averages and the worst positioned team in the season table are relegated, and the best team in the Primera B Nacional is promoted while the promotion of the other two is yet to be decided. There will be three promoted teams per season. Newly promoted teams only average the seasons since their last promotion. Simple, then.

Jtm_92
Speaking of promotion and relegation, The worst system is the belgium league, It's absolutely mental, Every team gets its total points halved and for relegation the 15th team gets a 3 point head start over 16th and they play 5 games head to head. Tooj
Why FFS? Clearly to preserve the status quo but River were still that shit the other year they went down anyway.

Jtm_92
The Play-off system in belgium Championship Playoff The point system in the championship playoff is the same as during the regular season, except that each team starts with half of the points they won in the regular season, rounded up to the nearest integer. The points gained by rounding are deducted in the case of a tie. The top 6 teams from the regular season enter the championship playoff, with the first-placed team winning the championship of Belgium. Each team plays their opponents twice, and the teams are ranked by points, points from rounding, wins, etc. as in the regular season. Europa League Playoff Teams ranked 7 to 14 after the regular season enter the playoffs 2, with teams ranked 7th, 9th, 12th and 14th entering the group A and teams ranked 8th, 10th, 11th and 13th entering the group B. In each group, each team plays each of its 3 opponents twice. The winner of each group plays the final game in two legs, to determine the winner of the playoffs 2. The winner of the playoffs 2 then plays a home and away game against either the fourth-placed or fifth-placed team from the playoffs 1 for the final Europa League ticket, with the opponent depending on the fact if the Belgian Cup winner ended in the top four of the playoff 1 or not. Relegation Playoff Teams ranked 15th and 16th after the regular season enter the relegation playoff. It consists of 5 games between the 2 teams. The 15th-placed team starts the playoffs with 3 points whereas the 16th-placed team starts from zero. The loser of the relegation playoff is relegated to the second division. The winner of that playoff enters the Belgian Second Division Final Round with 3 teams from the second division. The winner of this Final Round plays in the First Division the season thereafter. Disco
Why FFS? Clearly to preserve the status quo but River were still that shit the other year they went down anyway. It's liable to change next year again. Neil, title is short form table. They have (or did) a final between the two winners which decides nowt. Relegation is between Colon, Rafaela and Godoy Cruz. River and the two La Plata teams can win the league, if they're level on points it'll be a playoff.

Neil
Osasuna v Betis game suspended due to a barrier collapsing. "Injuries sustained" but no word if they're serious. Edit: crowd rush after Osasuna scored, went towards the front barrier and that gave way. Edit 2: game been restarted now. And they score again immediately. Wullie
I get that people might not be keen on Arsenal fans/lack of atmosphere at the Emirates/media overplaying this whole 9 years thing. But success is relative. I can exactly see why fans will be very frustrated with Wenger in recent years, even if his first decade was nothing short of exceptional. Arsenal going 9 years without a trophy is a major failure so it's clearly a headline when they end that drought. The whole "aww look at Arsenal fans not being sad anymore after their 10000000 year wait for a trophy"-style comments, man. Come off it. Going off here, most people get riled when other clubs' fans and media outlets poke fun at/give generalised, potentially inaccurate comments about Newcastle fans (deluded, they should be pleased with what they've got, etc)...... but it's alright to do it the other way round? It's the whole attitude that stinks. It not just the media saying it's been too long for Arsenal to go without a cup it's their fans as well, they honestly think that. Sorry but no club is automatically entitled to success, no matter how big they are. I myself still don't think Arsenal are the big club people make out, sure they are in the top 4 every year and such, however their fans are the quietest there is. Their last stadium was nicknamed the Library, even by their own fans, they moved to a new stadium that holds 60k which has done nothing to create an atmosphere and they can't even fill the whole stadium. To me both West Ham and Spurs are the biggest clubs in London, Newcastle, Everton, even Leeds, and Forest and others are to me bigger clubs than Arsenal. I used to prefer it when Arsenal won things, it wasn't Man Utd glory hunters, and it wasn't Chelsea's millions, but when I realised their fans never actually cheered their team on and the Wenger 'Always the victim' effect started to become so ingrained with the club I just put them up there with the others. Absolute maniac.
