Is there a story to the spartans in Blyths name?

They were founded by Fred Stoker in September 1899, who was the club's first secretary before forming a practice as a distinguished physician in London's Harley Street. He thought it appropriate to name the team after the Greek Spartan army in the hope that the players would give their all as they went into "battle" on the field of play.

Whats the deal with Blyth, predominently a Newcastle supporting area or Sunderland? Shearer seemed to be quite popular?

 

 

got to be newcastle- when I went to an fa cup game htere a few years ago - it was full of newcastle fans. Loads of toon fans in Blyth.
